No sound after charging iPhone with 3.0 update

I have noticed that after charging my iPhone (orig. generation 4GB model) that the sounds / audio notifications for keyboard clicks, email messages, text messages, all stop working. Ringer sounds continue to work. So far powering off the phone and powering back on seems to restore the sounds, until the next charge.

Anyone else?? Any solution??

Same here but even a reboot does not bring back sounds. My ringer still works but event sounds and ipod will not play from speakers. I do get the sounds and music when I plug in the headphones.

This just began to happen this am. Its as if it thinks my headphones are still plugged in. Speaker phone works, and headphones work. But I can't hear sound and on calls, they can't hear me.

Since original post it seems my problem has disappeared?? Why? Not sure.

I noticed that when I used my car charger last week, and then docked the iphone base via USB to laptop at another time, and now also the charger base plugged into the wall charger, all sounds work without restart/power down.

Not sure why it changed but will have to keep an eye on it.

Same problem happened with me this afternoon. I was listening to my iPhone's music while gardening when my speaker stopped working. I've tried all sorts of reboots in an attempt to clear up this problem but it appears to me that my speaker has bit the dust.

I can hear the iPod playing music if I hold the iPhone close to my ear so I'm concluding the problem is isolated to the speaker.

I've never had this problem before and I'm wondering if having OS 3.0 installed has anything to do with this mishap?

I don't know why or how but my speaker just started working again.

There's a possibility that the new application alert function within OS 3.0 caused my sound mishap this afternoon.

When my speaker stopped working, I checked my iPhone pretty carefully and the only thing I observed that had changed was the evidence of a new alert on the AP Mobile application's icon. I've received these alerts several times before but never when I had music playing. This time when the alert arrived at my iPhone, I didn't notice the reception of the usual alert sound. Instead, possibly, that alert sound's software trigger served as a source of confusion for my iPhone which resulted in my speaker not working as it should.

I'm just guessing here, of course. Don't know if I should alert AP Mobile or Apple. Maybe they can read this message.

Yes, the mute button is in the correct position. I'm sure we're all smart enough to have flipped that switch several times.

This just happened to me, but to be fair, it's happened before on my first-gen iPhone, and it started for me today before I upgraded to 3.0. I was hoping the 3.0 update would fix it, but, no luck. I had actually used my phone earlier today with no trouble. Then, plugged in a cord to play music in my car. After unplugging the cord, the phone still thinks the headphones are plugged in; there's no sound from the speaker, and when I adjust the phone volume, the display shows "ringer (headphones)" and the volume bar.

Previously when this had happened sporadically, a simple plug-n-unplug of the headset fixed it. Not this time. I still wonder if it's software, or if something mechanical inside the headphone jack is stuck.

I've plugged the headset into the phone several times and removed, with no change. Rebooted, no change. Upgraded to 3.0. The update appeared to go smoothly, but, no change in behavior; the phone still thinks the headset is plugged in. Also of note is that when I plug the headset in and out, the iPod function starts playing, as if I had clicked the mic button on the cord.

I'd love some help, Apple. I often play podcasts through the speaker, and I don't want to carry my headset around for every time I need to take a call. Thanks.

thats how my 1st gen iphone has been since I got it, with 2.2.1 firmware

no sounds for going into sleep mode, no sounds for ringtones (only if I try to listen to one under settings)and no sounds for notifactions after its been charging

but as soon as I either start an app or get a call or play a song or video then all the sounds come back again

I had the same problem, but Riverdale Dave gave me the solution. It was the headphone jack. I had sound on my 1st gen when it came to speakerphone and ringtones, but couldn't hear the regular phone, keyboard clicks, or music. I remember having an issue before with the headphone jack, as though it still thought the audio line was in. It took a few tries of inserting and removing a plug into the jack, but it cleared after the 3rd try and everything works now. Thanks guys, I did NOT want to go to the store tomorrow, and am thinking about upgrading to 3GS but not ready to do so yet.

The problems are on going. As soon as I charge the phone a lot of problems happen, here are just a few I notice:

Lose messaging and voice mail notification sounds
Disconnects when ending a call and fails to reconnect to Bluetooth feature in car.
Display problems with Control4 app. when connected to home controller.

Re-choosing the ring tone solves the loss of sounds, but the other problems need a reboot to get them back up and working again.

So until Apple decides to release 3.1 update which is now in beta, and hopefully they watch the posts here and address the problems noted, guess it is best to reboot the iphone after every charge.
