Laptop Backpack

Hi,

I have a 15" macbook pro and I have been using a tucano messenger style bag which has survived for a few years but it's now falling apart on me. I also have a sleeve that I haven't used so much but it's there if I need it when it's raining etc.

I liked the style of the tucano, it was quite simple/elegant, good for all round use and I could use it to work. It wasn't too bulky or anything and looked good.

However, I find that the over the shoulder bags aren't so good for my back so I'm thinking of getting a backpack to replace it. The only thing about the backpacks is that they don't look as stylish as a messenger bag, but I'll willing to compromise that a little for my health!

What I am looking for in a new case/backpack:

- Something that would fit up to 17" (i may get a 17 in the near future)

- would also fit a Wacom A5 graphics tablet (similar footprint to a 15 inch mac)

- would fit mx revolution mouse, cables accessories and an external HD (portable size at least)

- I need to be able to put in sheets of paper, books etc (I can be messy sometimes) but would be good to have a clean compartment that won't make the book corners too ragged! Decent, practical compartments that work well.

- I'm looking for good quality, good build, robust. I mean well padded straps, good stitching, good back padding, good interior construction, quality zips etc.

- Something that looks nice and not so bulky, not an obvious laptop bag.. sleek design, not so many colours, preferably black. Something that I can take to work with me.

The ones I am currently considering, in no particular order, are:

- North Face 'BigShot' http://www.blacks.co.uk/product/093550.html

- SwissGear 'Carbon' for 17" http://store.apple.com/uk/product/TN223LL/A?n=17inch_macbookpro&fnode=MTY1NDA2Ng&mco=MjIzMDk3Mw&s=topSellers

- Incase Nylon Backpack http://store.apple.com/uk/product/TN010ZM/A?n=17inch_macbookpro&fnode=MTY1NDA2Ng&mco=MjE0Njg3Ng&s=topSellers

- Brenthaven 172 Backpack http://store.apple.com/uk/product/TC459LL/A?n=17inch_macbookpro&fnode=MTY1NDA2Ng&mco=MjIzMTMzMw&s=topSellers

I have only seen the North Face and Incase bags so I don't know exactly what the other two are like other than some peoples reviews/comments etc. Has anyone got a decent comparison or some experience with these bags?

I'm in the UK and I've seen some other bags that also seem to be good but I don't think we get them here.

Thanks

Thanks for the help guys.

From first impressions I am leaning more towards the North Face, then SwissGear then Incase bag, the Brenthaven is just way too expensive for what it seems to be.

North Face 'BigShot' I like because it isn't an obvious laptop bag, North Face, being an outdoors activity product manufacturer, generally makes decent quality hard-wearing clothing/equipment so supposedly it would be a good buy. It is for laptops but my concern is that books/files/sheets I throw in will become tatty.

SwissGear 'Carbon' I have not yet seen, and I might not get a chance to see it before I go abroad (I will be going for a couple of years!) I might go down to the apple london store to check it out as they may have it. I've read it has loads of pockets/compartments which is good. It sounds like a decent product as well.

Incase bag, I saw it and I actually really like it, I love the fur lining! But it looks like an obvious laptop case which I'm not sure I want... I guess I could get it.

On the flight I am allowed 1 hand luggage and 1 laptop/briefcase or w/e. So maybe I would have to get a backpack and a laptop case separate, but I'm still unsure!

Has anyone else got any ideas?

Thanks again.
