Personal Letterhead Template

A graphic designer has created my letterhead in pdf format. I want to create a template for my letters using this design. Based on the discussion re a watermark in this forum, I've created a textbox that contains the 8.5x11 dimensions of the pdf layout. But when I go the the Inspector button, I apparently am not active in the document as it does not permit me to select the floating option.

But the instructions for the watermark may not be relevant. Can anyone advise me. I will also need to create a template for my invoices which I will print from numbers.

Thanks,

KDS

Stone Post,

There is no such thing as a "Word code" (I think you mean PC) .pdf.

1. Is it necessary for your watermark graphic to be the same size as the letterhead?

2. Are you in *Word Processing* or *Layout mode* ? This is announced after the document name in the top bar of the window.

3. It will be better for you to be in *Word Processing mode* there is virtually no advantage to be in Layout mode, especially for a document that will probably continue onto following pages.

4. See my instructions here:

Except instead of creating a text box, click on the Shapes icon 6th from left on the Toolbar and stretch it out as large as you need.

KDS,

It sounds as though you may be new to Pages. If this is the case, the Pages 09 User Guide, available for download from the Help menu is worth reading to get you grounded in the terminology and techniques.

You have options of using the Word Processing mode or the Page Layout mode. You make this choice when you choose a blank template. You can't switch later without starting over. My preference would be to start with a blank Page Layout template.

Paste the PDF into the document. It should default to Floating in Page Layout mode. Since you are not seeing an option to set the object property, you must be using a Page Layout template

Stretch and Position the PDF to fit the area where it needs to be on the page. The PDF is not going to be inserted into your Text Box. Rather, your text box(s) will be positioned relative to the PDF.

Regarding your Numbers invoices, what are your questions?

Jerry,

You are very right -- I'm a 2-day old user. In fact, I'm doing a free 30-day test of this suite as an alternative to the Word for Mac suite because I'm wanting, in particular, to create templates with background images for my personal business functions. I cant find anyone who knows how to do that in Windows.

Well, in spite of your clear advice, I have failed to achieve my objective. I think it has to do with my having pdf files saved in Word code. I can capture a pdf image of my letterhead and paste it in a new Page Layout window, but it still does not put the image in the background. I can save the document then, but it comes up as the top layer and will not let me type a letter on it. In other words is is not a template.

Then, when I go back to my Office for Mac suite, I cannot open any jpeg files as it says they are now formated for mac, but I can't open them in Pages either. I can then reboot -- like I'm living again the the old word of Windows -- and the files can be opened in Office for Mac suite.

I want very much to make Pages work for me, but I don't seem to be able to do that yet.

Select the PDF and Arrange > Send to Back or Select your Text Box and Arrange > Bring to Front. Then Save.

Stick with it. This is not really so tough as it may seem to you right now.
