Hello pancrazir

Not sure if this will work, but try the reset step's in the > [What to do if your computer won't recognize a FireWire or USB device|http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1317] article, they have reset the tripped out FireWire ports on many an Intel iMac.

+1. Shut down the computer.+
+2. Disconnect all devices and all other cables, except the keyboard and mouse cable(s).+
+3. Disconnect the computer from the power outlet and wait for 3 to 5 minutes.+
+4. Plug the computer back in and turn it on.+
+5. Reconnect the device(s) (one at a time if there is more than one) and test. Test with each port if you have more than one.+

I've tried all of that, but still having problems -- cannot access either of my firewire ports with either of my dv cameras. This all happened after I had taken my iMac in for a tune up. Here is the long process to try and get the problem solved. I brought my iMac in to diagnose the problem and they replaced the logic board. (Of course, they didn't have the part in stock, so I had to lug my iMac back home and return in 5 days.) It still did not work, so I called Apple Care, who had me try a lot of different thiings and they he said it was a hardware problem. I brought it back to the Apple Store and one of the "geniuses" plugged in his test drive and my iMac recognized it. He convinced me to buy a new 9-pin cable and try the other firewire slot. That didn't work, either. I called Apple Care again and spent at least an hour on the phone. He said maybe it was my camera. This is not the case, as my PC recognized my dv camera device, using the same firewire cable. They could not resolve the problem and told me to take my iMac to an authorized Apple Certified repair store. Am I the only one still experiencing this problem? Thanks for taking the time to read and respond.
