Resend an email and include BCC recipients

When I want to resend a message using mail, I see the address in the "To:" field, but the "BCC:" field is always blank, even though in the original message there were many recipients who were on the BCC list.

How do I make those BCC recipients appear again when I want to "Send Again".

Thanks

Hi Ernie,

In our circumstance Mail in our MBP doesn't show bcc after it has been sent - bcc does not show up in the header, or anywhere. The bcc actually does get sent though to the recipient. After the message has been sent, bcc and the recipient address is not denoted anywhere - even though they got the email. It seems that others also have this problem according to searches in this forum with no solutions.

We've confirmed that bcc works correctly on our iMac and GMail directly so the problem is isolated. I'm hoping that I don't have to reinstall to get this to work, and there is a simple solution. Too bad it's not a simple trash plist and re-open app type of correction.

Hi Ernie,

Thanks for trying to help out.

Versions are 3.6 (935/935.3) on both machines. SMTP is smtp.gmail.com:(account name).

Noticed that when you check (use only this server) for outgoing, bcc starts to show up in the computer Send folder only, but not in the originating Gmail Sent Mail folder, unless it was sent directly from the Gmail account and not Apple Mail.

It's as though Gmail directly respects bcc and records this in Apple Mail, but Apple Mail only records bcc in its "own" Send folder and doesn't forward this on to Gmail, and hence the Gmail Sent Mail folder on the computer. If the email in the computer Send folder is deleted, then the bcc notations are subsequently forever deleted as the bcc is not shown in the originating Gmail Sent folder.

As an aside, we noticed for some time now the Mailbox Behaviors seem to randomly check/add Draft and Junk preferences that have been set/left unchecked. This is really weird behavior.

We're also finding the same problem on one of our Apples, but not the other - bcc is not being shown anywhere after a message is sent from Apple Mail, bcc is stripped out of the message - long headers and raw source also exclude the bcc. Even viewing the Apple Mail message directly in GMail, the bcc is stripped out.

We just tested using GMail to send directly and the bcc is shown in GMail and when viewed in Apple Mail (as it should be) - this is all using a MBP.

Interestingly, on our iMac bcc works perfectly using Apple Mail so this indicates that there is something wrong happening in the MBP system (in our case).

Because of our findings, something is possibly corrupt on the MBP - in the app or OS or somewhere else. We couldn't find a plist to trash to refresh.

Maybe a bright mind has the solution ....

I would chalk this up more to Gmail's weirdness, than Mail, since the Sent folder Mail uses is in fact on the server, and can be see from more than one computer, but the Bcc do not show except of the computer sending the message -- yet Mail is storing the Sent message on the server, and not On My Mac.

Keep in mind that with Gmail accessed as POP, if the Gmail SMTP is used, the messages find their way to the server. Gmail is simply not true POP nor true IMAP, no matter how setup.

Thanks for the reply Ernie,

It may be that Gmail acts weird with Mail as it is a non-Apple product that doesn't always play nice - IMAP though is really a convenience to have. Maybe I/we are expecting more that can be delivered at this time, and these types of annoyances will be corrected in future updates at Gmail and/or Apple.

Agreed that the data is on Gmail's server. IMAP using Gmail in Mail may be dumbed down in these types of ways so that Gmail forces you to use Gmail directly to get full functionality.

Anyways if the behavior I am getting is "normal" then we'll have to live with that. Having multiple accounts in one place is really nice and Mail is really doing a yeoman's job.

Now that the bcc issue has been put to bed, do you have any ideas about the weird Mailbox behavior relating to Apple Mail choosing to check unchecked boxes without the users consent?

This is especially odd as the user must specifically choose to click save changes or not in a pop-up dialog box whenever any parameters are changed in the Account preferences.

Hi again Ernie,

In Mail Accounts - Mailbox Behaviors, the boxes for Drafts and Junk are always left unchecked. At some random points in the future, these boxes will mysteriously become checked.

We have 6 IMAP accounts and one or two of them will change to be checked from time to time. No rhyme nor reason - random it seems, but very annoying and odd as we find these changes occurring without notice or us choosing to change them - the app does it by itself (or maybe Gmail is doing it somehow from their end).

Just happened again today actually on two accounts.

I always have Drafts stored on the server for IMAP accounts, so no chance to see this, but some of my IMAP have Junk on the server, and some do not. None of them have ever changed, to my knowledge.

However, this may differ from server to server. It may be useful to note that if you Control-click on the Inbox of any IMAP account, and choose Get Account Info, then in addition to the first tab in the window that results from communication with the server, Quota Limits, the second tab is a recitation of the Mailbox Behaviors -- also a tab for Subscription List. This info for IMAP accounts appears to me to be stored on the server, and thus perhaps the server can be involved in any change to it?

Hi E27,

I have much the same problem you describe. Until about one week ago, I could look at any Sent item from any account and see both BCC and CC in the message header, with the complete list of addresses I had sent to.

In Mail 3.6 my header preference has always been "Default." In toggling Long Header repeatedly, never once has CC or BCC appeared in the header, though many other header items have. BTW, I rebuilt the mailboxes, reindexed the messages, and repaired disk permissions (per Mail Help). No fix.

In my sent boxes are items from two current POP accounts, one POP account no longer in use, and a GMail IMAP account. The Sent POP messages are resident on my Mac, and none display the BCC or CC info they always have readily in the past. So the vagaries of GMail and IMAP aside, why no CC or BCC info?

I share the concern that this is something whacked in Mail 3.6 or a supporting file. It seems the "Long Header" toggle and/or Mail Preferences aren't functioning predictably. Has anyone else encountered this? Found a fix?

Thanks for listening.

Hello, and welcome to the Discussions.

I have checked messages sent with Bcc since the upgrade to the latest OSX and Mail, and they have the Bcc available in the Sent mailbox, and visible using the Default Headers in Mail Preferences setting, and without needing to use the Long Headers.

I suggest toggling the header choices in Mail Preferences/Viewing and testing further.
