How do I fix cursor freeze when I am using trackpad on MacBook
I am not sure when this problem began, but my cursor often freezes. Getting it to move again is not certain. Sometimes hitting the tab or esc key seems to help, although often I think it just starts up again on its own. I have read all the help that seems available and believe all my settings are OK, but the problem persists. This is particularly annoying when the cursor is not even visible, as also happens when the freeze starts.
Please let me know if you have a solution to this problem.
It's impossible to diagnose this with the information you've given, unless it's a known issue (which it isn't, as far as I know). We could just give you the standard "repair permissions, repair the hard drive, etc." speeches, but that would just be shooting in the dark. That doesn't mean it won't help, just that there's no particular reason to know one way or another. If you want to try these standard diagnostics, read the docs linked below:

Also, try cleaning your Trackpad. Take a clean lint free cloth and just dampen it with water and wipe the Trackpad.
If you use an external mouse with your MacBook, open System Preferences/Keyboard&Mouse and click the Trackpad tab. Deselect: Ignore trackpad when mouse is present.
Hi to Both, Try to answer both now. I did all suggested in your emails and the Apple help documents. The problem persists.
Moving the cursor with the trackpad works sometimes, but often not. In particular when I am using one window and have to move out to scroll in same or another, the cursor stops responding. The same happens when I want to move the cursor UP to the menu toolbar, to perhaps use File, Edit or another Menu drop down list.
The cursor either just stops or seems to disappear. Eventually, it shows up anywhere on the laptop screen and I have to try to get it back to where I want it to go. This after my hitting ESC or TAB that sometimes jars the cursor to work again.
At times it is also difficult to open a program through an ICON on the DESKTOP by clicking on it. I have to click on it and then get the cursor up to the toolbar FILE > OPEN .
There does seem to be enough RAM and HD memory on this computer. Could the battery be failing or the HD?
Well, if you got any ideas from this additional info from me, I sure would appreciate your thoughts, or those of anyone else. Of course, thanks for the first answers too.
Regards, Don

Yes, I will take it to the store. Thought it could be fixed with this help discussion. Now I notice that if I do NOTHING after the cursor freezes, it unfreezes in about 10-15 seconds. All my using ESC and TAB was really doing nothing.
As it turned out, I first tried the laptop again and used a bluetooth mouse. With the mouse, the cursor problem went away until I went back to using the track pad. I called Apple and the technician confirmed that the laptop should be brought into the Apple Retail Store.
The problem was in the trackpad itself. Apple replace the top of the computer under warrenty.
