Bluetooth dissappointment

What's with the Bluetooth inability to transfer files? I can't connect to my MacBook to transfer files. Nor can we connect to other phones or devices to transfer files.
Then, the apps that allow for Bluetooth connection (such as leaf trombone) has a poor Bluetooth connection...

Anyone else dissappointed with the Bluetooth limitations?!?!!!

The phone is capable of file transfer via Bluetooth, why not allow it?

I don't know-that's up to the people that make it but;
Look very closely at my post. If your MacBook has Wifi you CAN set up a computer to computer network. You *DO NOT* need any other hardware.

Click the Airport icon in your menu bar and choose, +Create Network...+, name it and set up security if you so choose. Connect to it from your iPhone.
Is this not sufficient for file tx?

the particular issue with not being able to move photos via bluetooth occured for me today when i was trying to print a picture on a instant photo machine. so i cant bluetooth the pictures over. i cant use wifi as the machine doesnt support it. theres no removable memory card so i can use that. so i'm now needing to transfer pics onto my mac. copy onto memory stick and then print them. or in this case. not get a print when last week with my k850i i could.
Lovely phone. Yes i didnt investigate what bluetooth could do on this device before i got it. Seems a bit of a step back to not allow this kind of basic functionality.

It's typical that everyone will say "research before you buy it" but i understand what you are saying, come on everyone this technology has been on phones for years and it is so basic it is something that you expect to have without researching into it, you can get phones now for £30 or £40 now that can trasfer files between other phones.

It sounds like an excuse not to spend ten minutes checking out the product specs before you buy it. You just assumed that xyz has something so abc should also have it.

Remember, other phones also do not sell copyrighted media whereas Apple does. Nokia doesn't care if you share files. After all, they aren't in the media business so what's it to them if you give away someone else's copyrighted media.

The thing is the iphone does not really work as a file storage in its real sense. Yes it stores images, emails, movies, etc. But Apple being Apple, designed it so you have to go through their sync system using iTunes or the image capture app.

iPhone apps are capable of storing their own files so thats why there are programs out there that mimic that file storage functionality. They do this by running a small server where you can transfer files through wifi.

So I can see not supporting bluetooth file transfer if Apple remains intent on keeping the platform locked down -- and they obviously do. But I don't see any harm in supporting the digital camera protocol or the PIM protocol. And supporting A2DP without supporting AVRCP is just lazy.

I do have a sneaking suspicion that we'll see more protocols supported in future releases. It's been my theory all along that Apple rushed the delivery of the 3.0 software so the 3GS could hit the street at the same time as the Palm Pre. There might be a 3.1 in the near future that completes the feature set that should have been in 3.0.

With all do respect to all's opinion, I like this phone and I have waited to then new iphone to come out the 3gs in hopes of it will have a simple update to its Bluetooth. I am more interested in transferring photos from and some text files when I am not in front to my computer lets say when I am out and one of my friends takes a nice photo of me or off my kids and I would like to get a copy of it what do I do …. I must carry my laptop with me and have it transferred to me there and those to my iphone via iTunes will this is not a practical way sorry to say for all the tricks and a tweak in the iphone and not having this feature is a disappointment. Know my iphone is not going to be my primary phone it will be the secondary one sorry apple.

Thank you all

It should be able to use BT to transfer files and to send notes with other type of devices, I have an iPod touch and before the new update everything was just the same as it is now. If apple decided to hide BT on iPods just to sell us out the option to use it later (the thing was not cheap), and now I have bluetooth for no reason because a 5% of friends and family own an iPod or iPhone, if I wanted to use it on the car, well I don't have a car with bluetooth stereo, nor have BT earphones. Can't even use it to sync SOMETHING with the Mac?
