How to update iPhone 2G

Hi

The last time when I updated my 2G iPhone to 2.0 it stopped working. Since the phone didn't come to Australia, it had to be fixed overseas. I want to update it to 3.0 so that I can have all the new applications. I'm not too sure whether I should update it or not because of what happened the last time I tried updating it. Any ideas/options?

Yes you can. Connect it to your computer, then click its icon in iTunes and click "update". It's a free update.

Open iTunes. Connect iPhone. Select iPhone from within iTunes. In the Summary tab, you should get "Check for Update". What happens then?

Interesting. When I clicked "Check for Update" I got a choice of "Download" or "Download and Install"
