Has Apple acknowledged the battery problem with new 3Gs?

They state that the new phone's battery is supposed to be better and yet so many people (including myself) see that it is far worse than the old 3G! Mine was 100% fully charged when I got up at 7am. It's now 9:45am and it's down to 62% already! I've hardly used it today. Push is off.

Apple really struggle when they come to the battery performance in their products! I wish they would spend more money in research for better longer lasting ones!

Greetings,

That would be difficult to acknowledge as not all iPhones 3Gs have this problem. I have 2 of them now, and we work with a few dozen folks that have them in one of the organizations, and there has been no issues of any sort.

They aren't melting down, or behaving in an unusual way. They are all pretty much on specifications as advertised.

You and others may be having an issue, but the vast majority are not. Call for an appointment at an Apple Store, to have it checked. Most people have tried different routines and have met with success, according to these forums. As I said I have personally not seen any of it.

Cheers,
M.

It depends on what the iPhone says. If it says "No Service", at that point it is not looking and the phone is idle. If it says "Searching..", then what you say is true. However, jenmeg has just updated her comment on page 19 and said that the signal does fluctuate after all on one of the floors. If the signal does go from 1 bar to zero bars, then that will eat up more battery.

Some of us have been running a simple test trying to compare battery usage, if you're one of those who have no battery issues please participate, we need to have data from the upper end of the spectrum as well. Setup as follows:

Charge to 100%
Turn brightness to 100%
Turn Airplane mode on
Set Auto-Lock to Never
Set Clock Timer for 1 hour
Remove from charger, begin countdown
Post battery percentage remaining on this thread, we're collecting and update periodically
Begin timer again immediately after first test for a second hour if so inclined for better data, and so on

This test obviously discounts wireless drain on the battery but that's the point, it provides a baseline to determine battery health on an even plane for all iPhone 3GSs. Any problems with battery life beyond that can then be determined to be related to how your phone is handling wireless services.

Join the fun. :-/

Charge to 100%

check
Turn brightness to 100%

check and turned off auto brightness too
Turn Airplane mode on

check
Set Auto-Lock to Never

check
Set Clock Timer for 1 hour

check
Remove from charger, begin countdown

check

After the first 1-hour countdown my percentage indicator was at 91%.

After the second 1-hour countdown my percentage indicator was at 77%

My brother told me about this test and I had just received a new iPhone (5th replacement due to various issues) and wanted to make sure the battery was on par. I did the test as outlined here and my result was - 90% after 1 hour. I did the test twice and both times it was 90%.

I will say though, the lower the battery gets, it seems the slower it drains. The higher the charge, the quicker it drains. I kid you not. Anyone else notice that?

I also did another "test" last night. I charged my phone to 100% via the wall charger. It sat in standby for 7 hours 7 mins and the charge dropped to 96% in standby. Everything default like it is out of the box. BT was not on, everything else was. That is drop of 1.75 for every 2 hours of standby. Almost 1% every hour. At that rate, I will gt approx 2 1/2 days of standby time. Approx. 52 hours with default options. Not sure how Apple is getting 300. Makes me just shy by 250 hours.
