Has Apple acknowledged the battery problem with new 3Gs?

They state that the new phone's battery is supposed to be better and yet so many people (including myself) see that it is far worse than the old 3G! Mine was 100% fully charged when I got up at 7am. It's now 9:45am and it's down to 62% already! I've hardly used it today. Push is off.

Apple really struggle when they come to the battery performance in their products! I wish they would spend more money in research for better longer lasting ones!

Believe what you want, but Apple is known for doing research. The iPhone uses a Lithium-ion battery, which is common with portable computer batteries, and with devices such as cell phones including the iPhone, and iPods. What type of battery do you believe Microsoft uses with a Zune, or other cell phone manufacturers use with all their cell phones, or PC box assemblers use for their laptops? Apple doesn't manufacturer batteries, but they work with Lithium-ion battery manufacturers. Battery technology has improved along with all other technology, but seems to move somewhat slower than other technologies with trying to keep up.

Possible there is something wrong with your iPhone or with your iPhone's battery. If you are in the U.S., you can call AppleCare at (800) 694-7466, or make an appointment at an Apple store if there is one nearby.

Wow, Allan, a little sharp on the reply, no?

I agree that there is an issue with the battery on my new 3GS phone. Considering that there have been over thirty views in the fifteen minutes since the OP posted, I would say there are many others with the issue.

I'm hoping that this is some sort of software/firmware issue and that it'll be resolved.

For the folks with very thin skin maybe, but no.

Considering that there have been over thirty views in the fifteen minutes since the OP posted, I would say there are many others with the issue.

Views of a thread mean nothing by itself - nothing can be ascertained whatsoever by the number of views for a thread here.

Copied from my previous post, which those with very thin skin are likely to miss.

I read this and I don't have a problem with my battery. Sounds as if yours does have a problem. I'd try restoring as new and see if that helps. If not, I'd take it back to Apple and see if they will replace it under warranty.

Making ignorant statements such as your last one, based upon your obvious complete lack of knowledge of the subject, will generally draw a few sharp responses.

Here's an article on what Apple is doing to assess the battery life on the iPhone 3GS when people say they are having problems.

Spoke to Apple this morning and they (at least the person I spoke to) hadn't heard of this so I emailed her the link and she came back to say that this wasn't an Apple solution and NOT to use but to restore phone and turn off push, 3G, bluetooth etc!

Has anyone been given this solution and access to the control panel by an Apple official? I don't want to have to turn off the features I bought it for just to use it!

The features you purchased the iPhone for can be a significant battery drain especially if a feature is enabled that is not being used such as wi-fi and bluetooth access.

Copied from the link provided.

When discovering the beauty and the power of the iPhone 3G/3G S many customers have a tendency to use it as a mobile computer, heavy internet browsing device and a mobile game station, while heavily calling friends to report how they are in love with their new mobile phone. With such usage, the battery life will be reduced to couple of hours, as with any notebook heavily used.

Just with the screen itself - the more the iPhone's screen is on, more battery will be consumed - especially with a 3.5" screen.

This link may be helpful.

If these recommendations do not change battery consumption, then give AppleCare a call at (800) 694-7466, or make an appointment at an Apple store of there is one nearby.

Although I don't use my phone for gaming very often (I played scrabble for 20 minutes yesterday) I use it heavily for email and bluetooth.

48 hours ago, I charged the phone fully. Since then, Bluetooth, WiFi, push, 3G, location services have all been ON, MobileMe gets synched every 15 minutes and FOUR email accounts are getting checked and downloaded every 15 minutes. I've talked almost two hours on 3G, texted several times and played with the GPS. It's still at 15 percent 48 hours later, and I'm waiting for it to die completely so I can cycle the battery fully.

If you're having battery drain at the rate described in the OP, there is something wrong with your phone, an email account or app. I'm terrifically satisfied with the battery life of mine so far.

My phone is not draining as fast as yours but the battery life is nowhere near what my 1st gen phone was. It's lost 10% of it's charge just sitting in standby for a few hours. By comparison my 2 year old 1st gen phone has been sitting for 3 DAYS and is still around 65-70%.

I have done the full drain thing twice. I've also made sure that safari is shut down (no open pages).

If your phone works great.

3G does suck juice. Turn it off in Settings if you want to compare with a 2G phone. A 3GS should definitely last longer than your 2G in that test; if it does not, there is a problem.

My 3GS does not seem to be a problem, though my 2G phone did go longer between charges (which is not a surprise).
