Have you had an iPhone replaced due to water damage?

If so, I have a couple of questions:

First off, my phone HAS NOT been near any water. But, I understand their policy...it's my word against theirs, and they're the warranty providers. *****, but it's policy.

1) What is the probability of them giving me a NEW (rather than refurbished) 3G? Anyone have any experience with this?

2) Will they take my old phone from me? It is still functional, but they told me that once the sensors are tripped, they can't use any of the parts for fear of water damage. So if they do request to keep my phone, why would they do it?

I appreciate any help, as well as I appreciate Apple doing this for $199. They don't HAVE to do anything, really.

An exchange under warranty, or an exchange via Apple's out of warranty or not covered under the "repair, which pays for an exchange, will be a new or refurbished iPhone depending on what is available in stock at the time with no way to tell the difference between the two.

Apple's out of warranty or not covered under the warranty "repair" price pays for an exchange. If you want to do this, you will not keep your existing iPhone - it will be exchanged regardless if Apple won't use any of the parts.
