iPhone 3G Works with iTunes, new 3GS DOES NOT WORK

Just got my new iPhone and it doesn't want to connect. I had this problem before when upgrading to 3.0 on my old phone, but I'm wondering if the problem is going to persist on my phone simply because of new hardware inside of the phone.

It's the EXACT same as this problem: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2056368&tstart=0

What's happening is the "USB driver" made by Apple is failing, using the USB inputs hardwired in my motherbeard. The workaround I have to do is plug it into ANOTHER computer, and then connect it back into mine to sync my backup. However, since this phone is new and giving me the error, I cannot access my backup.

The ultimate workaround is to back up my old phone on ANOTHER computer and then sync my new phone on that one. But that's completely redundant. I think Apple's provided driver is busted, even with the suggested reboots, reinstalls, and so on.

I'm wondering if I'm alone on this. My old phone works but my new phone does not, meaning there is no way to sync it and access my backup. This is a complete pain, I'm wondering if anyone has a diagnosis for the driver.
