Tried to update iPhone, and lost everything, won't restore!

Hi everyone,

So I finally decided to update to the newest software for the iPhone 3G (I was wary of doing so because the last software update crashed my phone, had to restore it, and get all my apps back, very time-consuming!).

I should have known that the same thing would happen...which it did. My phone crashed in the process of updating. The update DID finish downloading, just won't install. But this time, I cannot restore my phone when it tells me I need to. It gives me a 2005(6) error message: The iPhone "iPhone" cannot be restored. An unknown error has occurred (2005/2006). I have tried doing what it says on the site, reporting the problem, restarting my computer, creating a new user account on my MacBook, etc. The USB cord is brand spanking new. But for some reason, I just cannot get my phone restored, and I am not sure what to do.

Any help would be appreciated. Thank you in advance!

MacBook, Mac OS X (10.5.7), iPhone 3G 8GB
