I just downloaded the PhoneView demo, followed your instructions and it worked just like you said. Thank you soooo much! I am so happy I didn't have to restore! And I'm also glad it worked with the demo so I didn't have to shell out $20 for it! 😀
Without repeating all the good observations: I justed to mention to the newly frustrated that I've had the same problem for over 1 month. Since upgrading to 3.0. I lost none of my camera photos or screenshots. When I synch using iPhoto '09, everything in the Camera Roll shows up & I can copy to my MacBook. Three weeks ago or more, several mentioned buying & using "PhoneView" software to fix the issue. (PhoneView is for your Mac or PC; it's not an App Store app).
I actually bought PhoneView, because it's so useful for many other iPhone needs. But, I confess Ive been too busy (lazy) to have applied it to fix the "New pics don't show in camera roll" issue once & for all. No time this weekend either. When I do I will report the results here; if successful Ill type it step by step. For other non-techies like me. 7.31.09.
Worked perfectly! Only thing is, I can now take photos and they show up but it still wont show the pics i took during this bug. It still counts them as being in there tho. Should I just sync the photos on via iPhoto?
(also my pix with filenames > IMG_10000.jpg are not shown)
on a WinPC the iphone/ipodTouch is visible as a USB-unit, and all made pictures/screenshots can be copied to the PC.
so they will not get lost and i can work on till apple will fix this.
maybe you want/can do something similar if working on a Mac.... 🙂
I didn't see this thread till now. I don't think I should have to pay for a phone call to Apple, or pay for some software for a problem that I didn't cause. I tried installing the new update and no luck. My photos show up in Windows Live Gallery but not on the camera roll.
So do you think I should use that program, or wait for Apple to resolve the issue? I just don't want to try something, have it mess up my phone or something, and then be responsible for it.
I can't believe that we are still waiting on Apple to fix this problem, I want to be able to take a pic & e-mail it straight out, not have to use phoneview to recover the pic & then send it - come on Apple, sort it out will ya!! ;(
I'm sad to report that in the last few days, the Phoneview fix for this problem has stopped working for me.
The camera roll problem recurred exactly as before: I'd plug my phone into my laptop, but iPhoto would not see or ask to import the camera roll pictures. I can use phoneview to manually copy the camera roll into iPhoto and then delete the camera roll from the phone. But the standard import process is not working.
I used Phoneview to delete the MISC file, ejected the phone, reconnected. But this time, that did not fix the problem.
When I tell iPhoto to import from the phone, it sees a numbered jpg file as an unreadable image. I can't delete this either from iphoto or phoneview.
I just updated the iPhone software this morning and restarted the phone. That did not fix the problem either
I have a Genius bar appt this afternoon to see if they can resolve.
Okay well, the PhoneView fix did work for me - except if I take a screen capture on my iPhone. Those pics still don't show up in the camera roll even though the number of pics it shows is correct. Does anyone know how to solve that issue? Apparently that MISC file doesn't contain the behind-the-scenes info for screen capture images.
I'm having this same issue. My photos are up to 10000 (although I haven't taken 10000 screenshots/photos/videos) but I am no longer able to view any new photos, screenshots, or videos in the camera roll, despite having pulled all the photos off the phone.
The PhoneView fix did work, once I figured out exactly what to delete. And I was able to do it using the free demo, so it didn't cost me anything. Hurray!
Apparently, when I take new pics now, they appear in the thumbnail and also appear in the gallery, but once I open the camera roll, they are not there!
I tried a restore and the pics started showing (although the ones which were hidden remained hidden) but now it stopped working again!
I am not sure what will Apple do regarding this, cause this makes my iphone and its camera useless since I cannot share the pics with anyone until I come back home and download the pics to my Macbook!!!
