New pics don't show in camera roll

Moved from the 3G to the 3Gs, new pics that I have taken do now show up in the camera roll.

Any ideas?

Hi, also new to this forum and experiencing the same frustrating problem. I found another suggestion in a different thread that worked for me. (Unfortunately I tried MM80's suggestion in this thread first, but it didn't work.

So I'm not cross-posting the same info, I'll just post the link. Wanted to put it up here as well since my experience and the method that worked for me is in the 3GS forum, although I have a 3G. Hope it works for those having problems here too!

p.s. - This method is for PC, but the software I used to fix it is a free download.

Also, I did follow the link and file a report with Apple earlier tonight. I have a customer service callback set up for tomorrow night as well, since I'd also like to report the problem to an actual human. The more complaints they get, hopefully the faster they will finally fix this bug since it seems to be a longstanding "known issue."

thanks for posting this....I can see my photos now using the Night camera app.

the problem occurred for me after syncing photos to my laptop for the first time after upgrading the
iPhone software a week or so ago. Had been working fine until then.

Now I can't see the camera roll and can't send photos by email or post onto Facebook.

The reason I have the iPhone is to have all the camera apps....so many wonderful ones.....but I can't wait to move them to the computer and I can't carry the computer around with me all the time....so the iPhone's main purpose for me is gone until this is fixed.

Thank you again the temporary solution, assurance that the photos I take are not lost.

Hi everyone,

(First, my phone isn't Jail Broken or altered in anyway. So, not sure how it works for the jail broken iPhones.)

So, quick update about the temp-solution I posted at:
http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2057689&start=45&tstart=15

When I tried the camera roll reset trick 9days ago, for my 16gb/3G the counter rolled back to img2000.xxx only from img10000.jpg.

Then without knowing it (until I Windows Explored the Camera) as I was taking photos, screen captures, and taking more photos using camera apps, the file numbers suddenly started to jump to img4000.xxx. Then today, I saw it jumped back to the 10K mark. Yet this time, I didn't take 6000-8000 extra shots in between the reset mark from before.

ie.
img10000.jpg (new photos turn invisible)->
reset trick on Aug 11 ->
count rolls back to img2000.jpg ->
9days of shooting normally ->
suddenly jumps in high increments, img4000+.jpg ->
count jumps to img10000.jpg again!
=
= No New Photos Showing in Camera Roll

😟

ps.
treeplant and glttrktty found a different method. hope theirs works out, if the solution i posted earlier didn't for you. i'm going to try this new one now.

Good Luck everyone!

ps.

I Agree with everyone who suggested that we file/bombard the Support Form at Apple.com. I'm going to do this after I post this reply.

These "so-called apple geniuses" are usually oblivious to rare problems like this, as I mentioned in my first post.

My experience with a genius (emphasis on lower case "g") quoted from my first post...
"So, I spoke to 1 Sales Assoc./genius and she didn't know anything about it (our camera roll problem). In fact she even went as far as to say (with pure confidence) it's not a real issue and that since it's just a problem found by users on "a forum" it's not an official problem. ("

Best Wishes to all my fellow iPhone Photogs who reached The 10K Landmark!

Cheers to the next 10K!

Hey MM80

So I followed the instructions & It worked, i've had this problem for approx 3-months now & I'm real disappointed that Apple hasn't jumped on this 'Major' issue, after all, people like to use their cameras, its that simple.

Thanks for the fix treeplant & glttrktty, & thanks for the heads-up MM80 - A big 'shout-out' to you all!!

Hi, I am having no luck with any of the solutions offered. I tried calling apple, and their response??? Well, its really NOT that big of a deal...you can still make calls. Told me as long as I can back them up to computer I shouldnt be upset. Yeah, um...even "free" phones can take pics that are available for viewing. He finally said that if "I couldnt get over it" that I could take it to an apple store (closest one is an hour and a half away) but that they didnt have any appointment times open today. Said I could go and wait it out. I told him I would take an appointment later in the week and he just sighed and hung up. seriously.

Has anyone had any luck by taking the phone in?

Saw you have a PC. Did you try the latest trick/solution? Based on logistics of the PC, the steps below are the same way that a Flash Drive/HD would be cleared out. Let us know what happened if you did try it.

And I took mine in a few weeks ago. The apple sales associates/geniuses are useless, when it comes to specific tech problems. Even the people that answer the lines are somewhat tech-handicapped.

They're basically either mid year college students trying to get a discount on their "new Mac" that pass themselves off as techies, or they're just good looking nerd types who have great retail history on their resume. They can definitely sell a Mac or iPhone to the masses, but can't help fix problems with said Mac or iPhone.

Tip: ALWAYS ask for a Manager or Head Apple Genius on duty. They're in charge of all the sales associates/apple geniuses, and usually know better than their underlings. But usually their the most busy because their fixing all the screw ups of said underlings. I've seen it in person happen right in front of me.

Anyway, hope you can get your problem solved. Try those steps mentions above in that link/thread.

Let us know,
Best,

I found this website... http://www.efinditnow.com/?p=18996

I was having the same issue(s), I would take a picture, but when I clicked on the camera roll, it would not appear. The main screen said I had (34) pictures, but the folder only had previous pics in it.
Long story short, if you follow the directions on the above site, it'll work!

I've been reading about this issue for three days now. This was the only fix I found. Also, I lost nothing during the 'fix'.

Hi all,

I think I have a fix using Phone View without deleting the DCIM files etc. So far it is working and haven't had any problems with iPhoto. Going to go out and do some extensive testing soon.

OK so here is the not so simple fix.

1.connect iPhone 3G/3GS
2. open Phone View
3. goto DCIM folder than .MISC folder
4. find "info.plist" and double click. Phone view will transfer the file to your documents folder. Double click it.
5. It should open with plist viewer. If not then you will have to download the iphone developer SDK
6. There will be two columns when you open this file in plist viewer one that says "key" and the other "value"
7. The "value" column the one that has the file counts for each of the picture folders in DCIM (starting with "100Apple, 102Apple, etc.") is the one you need to modify.
8. So in Phone View goto the picture folders (starting with "100Apple, 102Apple, etc.") and check the last number of the image file (example "IMG_999.jpg") in each folder and see if it matches the "value" column in the Plist viewer. Do not go with the amount of pics for the "value" column number, go with the number in the pic name. (I hope thats clear 🙂 Change each number in the "value" columns to the last number in each folder.
9. After your done save it.
10. Then replace the info.plist on the iPhone with the one you just modified using phone view.
11. test it.

So far it's working and no problems yet. I checked the info.plist file and so far it is adding the pictures properly with the correct number. So it should work. Keep your fingers crossed. Hope Apple fixes this soon.

Ray
