Q: Download error. Tap to retry

After trying to rent a movie on iTunes directly from my iphone 3G (with 3.0) the movie appears in the downloads area but says 'Download Error. Tap to retry.' The movie will not download even if I'm connected to WiFi. How can I either get the movie to download or cancel the purchase? Have I been charged? At this point I'd like to just make it go away. Please help.

I am having the same problem after having attempted to download a movie, and have already been charged for it. No idea how to resolve, or how to possibly download the movie via iTunes and sync over to my iPhone 3G without being double charged.

I had the exact same problem trying to download (rent) a couple of movies from iTunes on my iPhone. The problem was that I didn't have enough space left on my phone for the movies. I had to delete some music from my phone and then the movies downloaded. Each movies was about 1.7Gb. You can always load your music back on after you watch (or move to iTunes) your rentals.

I have the exact same problem with my brand new iphone 3GS 32 GB. I have over 20 GB of free space. I know the space is not the problem, but I still get the download error. Twice I tried to rent and download movies before flights in the last month and after it downloaded most of the way and went to "processing" , the download error, tap to retry message came up. Twice. This is obviously a problem. And I can't find anyway to get the movies onto my laptop now. I have been charged for these movies but they won't download to my iphone and itunes on my laptop shows no record of my purchases. And I'm not sure how to contact apple about this. Any advice?

I have also found that by freeing up about 2 times the space required for my downloading rental has made the download commence.

The original post was about downloading movie rentals, so your issue could be unrelated to this, but it seems if you free up plenty of space on your phone movie rentals will complete.

Perhaps there is another issue with this app and you should start your own thread on the topic. I don't know if your app issue will be noticed in this video rental thread.

Cleaned up some unwanted movies from my phone, download resumed again.Weird, after downloading 1GB of the 1.2GB file, iPhone still showing 1.3GB free space. I don't get it. Unless the free space reported doesn't take into account the downloaded file so far, in which case is really deceptive reporting of usage stats.

I found a fix! this happened with me with a son i tried to download. I simply went to iTunes without even connecting my iPhone and then clicked store menu on the top next to 'advanced' and 'controls'. Next, I clicked check for available downloads and it downloaded the song and done! Hope this helps!

I SOLVED IT!!!! For me atleast! The movies i bought were ones i bought ON my ipod, not computer. i got this error message for so long and it frustrated the heck outta me. i JUST figured out the problem was that there was not enough memory on my ipod to download this movie. To fix it i took another movie off my ipod via my computer, then downloaded it!! YAY
