Buddy with XP (incl. SP2) is not receiving video

They've made the changes to the firewall settings and we get a One-way Video IM connection (I have the camera, an iSight)

But their window which is supposed to have a moving image of me in it is blank!

EZ Jim, I had read your site thoroughly before posting my original message. I had also read all relevant material's on Ralph's site aswell as the Panflute forum for AIM users and AIM FAQ before posting my query.

This problem persists when no firewalls are enabled at either end, when firewalls are disabled on the routers at our respective ends. My buddy has further made sure that the additional video component is installed.

I only seem to encounter this problem (and i've encountered the same problem with 2 other friends running XP and SP2) with those running XP and SP2 in particular. I can two-way video chat fine with another buddy running XP without any SP updates.

Hi Daniel,

I cannot speak for EZ Jim, however I can tell you that installing the SP2 on any windows machine increases the computer security, mainly because it installs a more secure firewall, which by default is Active, if memory serves me correct. It is very important that your PC users friends with service pack 2 open the firewall ports for iChat or disable the firewall.

Hope it helps

Chris

Hello Daniel,

Chris offers some good comments. (I am always happy to see you post in, Chris. Thanks!)

If you have not already done so, ask you PC SP2 buddies to check their SP2 firewalls. Instructions on how to disable them are in the SP2 (James Weston's) section of the the "... girlfriend ..." section of Ralph John's pages. (You may need to scroll down to see the SP2 info.)

Do you have your Mac OS X
b System Preference > Sharing > Firewall
enabled? If so, and if Chris' suggestions did not already get you working, try disabling your Mac OS X Firewall while testing with your PC SP2 buddies.

You were wise to test with several PCs to narrow down your problem to your PC Buddies that use XP 2. Have you done similar tests with Macs to determine whether you have any problems with one-way video to Macs?

EZ Jim

The settings I made to the firewall on my Buddy/s computer was to open up TCP 2869 and UDP 1900 as per your instructions Ralph.

This hasn't seemed to work and I'll give it a try with both firewalls completely down next time my Buddy is online.

On the AIM FAQ it says that the program requires ports 1200-5000 or something like that... do these need to be opened also?
