iPhone will not show up in iTunes when I plug in USB
I am not able to sync my new iphone 3G S when I plug it into my computer. My old iphone that I did the latest update has the same problem. They will not even chirp or start charging when I plug them in. My shuffle will show up, sync and charge, no problem so I know that the USB ports are working properly. My phones will only charge on wall outlet adaptor. Tried two different apple iphone cables. Could this be a bug or am I doing something wrong?
I have iPhone 3G that I have upgraded the OS to 3.0 on and iTunes version 8.2 and my phone does not get detected by iTunes either.
I do know the cable is fine since iPhoto can find the photos and download them just fine from the iPhone. My phone is also charging - it's just not syncing at all.

I had this exact problem the day before 3.0 came out. It quit charging and I couldn't sync it. But my iPod charged and synced fine on the same cable. I had to take mine in to the local Apple store and they replaced it free of charge since it was still under warrenty. They thought that the dock part of the iPhone quit working.
***? After rebooting computer, phone and my refrigerator several times, no progress. Three days later, I try again. It works! Now, it works. Unbelievable. Thanks for your advice, folks.
My iPhone (3G running 3.0) shows up in System Profiler (running MacOSX 10.4.11) but does not show up in iTunes 8.2. This is the type of issue one would expect during beta test. I had been under the impression that 3.0 was ready to go gold, but I guess I was wrong.
