IPhone 3Gs Voice Control does not work

Purchased IPhone 3Gs 32g beside having no service were I live (AT&T is building a cell tower about a mile from my house) my Voice control only works about 1% of the time. For the Ipod I usually get some kind of error message “like listing not found” when it does find an album or artist it always the same one. I am sick of hearing Santana. For call when I do get a signal I also usually get an error message or if it works it pick on of my doctors and that’s it.
Went to the Genesis bar and they said it was a software problem, they gave me a new IPhone with my old sims card, but the did not test the new IPhone Voice control in the store because there were on contacts or albums in the memory.
Got home synced the new one and guess what same exact problem. I have read and tried everything on the internet and nothing has worked any ideas or suggestions ? Please help I tired of listing to Santana and calling Dr. Aronald.

There's a few things you can try that might help out.

No. 1 Make sure your genius results are updated. If you're saying "Play music like Snoop Dogg" it's going to try to make a genius playlist, and that might be why you have no results found.

No. 2 Speak slower. This might sound kinda dumb, I'm not trying to be a smartass. I found that my voice command worked 200% better when I spoke just a little bit slower. Not sure why exactly, but the difference was night and day.

No. 3 When calling someone (on purpose of course) it helps to sometimes add "mobile" at the end if the number is listed as mobile in your contact book. Usually you only need to do this if the contact has more then one number, but it helps even if they don't just to eliminate any ambiguity from the voice command.

Hope that helps!

Same here: I say "play songs of The Beatles" and what I got was: Tommy by Thw Who, Light my Fire by The Doors and more of that. But no Beatles.
Speaking slowlier didn't help.
Perhaps in my case the problem is being multiplied as I live in The Nether;ands and ofcourse speak Dutch.
Bur all in aal: this doesn't work.
Strange thing is that when I ask for dialing numbers or calling contacts all works perfectly.

I have had a 3GS now for several weeks and I can say without a doubt there is something wrong with voice control....I too have read everything and have tried everything..Voice control does not recognize much no matter how slowly I speak...For example when I say dial and give it a number it just starts dialing a contact that has nothing to do with the number....It understands things like cancel, shuffle but choosing songs, dialing numbers is really really bad.

I hope someone has some answers here. I really like the phone. I have been an apple person for many years and waited until now to get the phone thinking Apple would be up to speed by now, but they are not....

My father and I purchased 16gb iPhone 3GS' from bestbuy at the same time. I got home and mine would not vibrate, I had to go get a new one. He just discovered his voice control will not recognize a thing you say, so he went to bestbuy. He just returned home, and it will still not recognize any names. Mine works near perfect, it actually surprised me how well it recognized some of the names in my contacts list.

So he is on his 2nd 3GS and the voice control does not work, now he doesn't know if he should go for a 3rd or just deal with it not working. It does recognize if you tell it to dial and then give it the number, I did this with my number and it pulled my name up in the contacts list.

I really can not decide if this is faulty hardware or a firmware issue, that could possibly be fixed in the future.

Yes, it would seem Apple's voice control is still in beta (might actually be alpha or gamma, it's sooooo bad...)

I also had more success setting it to UK English (settings/General/Int'l/Voice Control), even though I was born and raised in Pennsylvania, and now live in Ohio. Other than speaking another language, my accent is about as far from UK English as one can get.
