I am also having this problem. I am using Klipsch Image S2m Noise-Isolating headphones and I like to listen to podcasts while I walk. I start the podcast, push the sleep button and while I'm putting the phone into my pocket, the Voice Control takes over. I have the Passcode on and Voice Dial set to off, but that doesn't help.

I just wanted people to know that it's not just the Apple headphones. I think the solution lies with the software and we should be allowed to disable this.

Please give us a choice in the next software revision.

I love my new iPod Touch. Fantasic. All that finger swipping access to my music, photos, video, and books is great. I was gobsmacked when I realised I can bring the "Trololo" video with me everywhere! All my ipodtouchless friends hate me now.

Recently my touch started playing music on its own. The little Griffin case occasionally presses the Home button when it's in my "man purse". (I prefer "Indiana Jones bag".) You can imagine my embarrassment when my iPod started playing Fatboy Slim's "Weapon Of Choice" during a funeral.

So what were you "guys" thinking as you sat around the large conference table during one of your code reviews. I can almost here the Voice Control Software Team now - "Everybody will want Voice Control", and "If that pitiful band of rebels don't want it they can jail break it", and "Are there any more Jolly Ranchers?".

It is all too easy to get spoiled by a narcisistic orgy of favorite features, but seriously? You give us 1,001 user options but not one to disable Voice Control?

If the problem is your iPod music being interrupted, Have you tried disabling the "shake to shuffle" option for your iPod?

If not try this: On your iPhone, Go to Settings--> “ipod”, go to the "shake to shuffle" and slide to “off”. If this option is “on”, it causes songs to randomly skip, when shaken (as the options suggests) unless you turn it off.

This procedure does not disable the voice command feature permanently but it will stop music from skipping.

@UncleGus - Thanks for the suggestion, but my "shake to shuffle" has been "off" since day 1. And someone else gave a suggestion earlier in the thread to use an adapter. That defeats the purpose of having headphones with a microphone, and although it fixes the problem of having Voice Command kick in, it causes a problem of not being able to use the microphone when a call comes in.

I have an IPod Touch 4G with Beats Studio's and Power Beats headphones. Everytime I pull the headphone cord out of the touch the voice control turns on. Would love a way to turn off voice control feature permanently. Just adding my vote.

Don't get your hopes up. I went through several pair of high-end Bose earbuds for running and was fighting the same problem. Guess when it finally went away? When the weather cooled off a bit! Even now, if I'm not careful to wipe my fingers on a dry part of my shirt before reaching up when I want to use the click-to-skip or rewind button, the stupid Voice Command feature kicks in and interrupts my running as I then have to haul the rackin' frackin' thing out of my pocket, clean myhand off, and try to swipe and disable the V/C.

This is my THIRD time posting about it - what a phenomenal disappointment hat Apple hasn't dealt with this in the many, many months it has been a problem. Pretty soon my contract will end and I can guarantee Apple that I will not re-up unless it's resolvedmby then. My favorite story on this site is the one by some poor b@st@rd whose phone keeps randomly dialing people as he's talking about them. That could cause some really awkward LEGAL complications, I would think, no?

I got my iPod Touch a few weeks ago and I know the problem is the case I have. Whenever too much pressure is applied to the iPod in my pocket, voice command kicks in and a random song starts playing out of the speakers. There needs to be a way to disable voice control. There needs to be a simple menu option to turn off this unnecessary gimmicky nuisance.

    Hi all,

I am thoroughly dissatisfied with my iphone. I've had the same problem in the gym with my iphone. All my songs keeping tripping ahead and back and skips everytime with the voice control option popping in time and time again. And now, it just keeps doing it even if I am holding the phone in my hand.

I might reset my phone and see if the problem goes away. I think this happened because of constant vibration from the treadmill slot when my iphone was sitting while I ran for hours. Anyhow, this is a problem as without the iPOD this phone is almost useless.

If apple cannot address this problem I'm moving on to something else. Apple does not provide any notifications against such problems and even 'genius' (or not-so-genious) guys wouldn't address my problem.

I might be moving away from apple now. I don't care.

tehPickle...did you ever find a resolution to this issue? I am also experiencing the same thing and it's driving me CRAZY I thought it was the wind as well, but I did a test run inside on the treadmill and still activated the voice command. I do have the 3Gs with the control feature on the cord of the earbuds and it's still doing it...so no, it's not the earbud version that you received. Any help would be great. Thanks.

WHY wont they let us disable it permanently? I swear I have been an IPhone user since the day the first one was released, but this Voice Control feature is going to be the thing that drives me to another phone. If it were a chip I could take out, I would smash it into a hundred pieces. Its been a problem with the 3g and the 4, and with countless earphones that I have used. Sometimes I swear I'll be on the treadmill FOCUSING on not touching the button, not breathing into it, not letting it hit my body and it still activates.

I was frustrated out of my mind with this voice control problem on my new iPhone 4 (also happened to my previous 3GS which was lost). Glad to know that i am not the only with this problem but sad to see that there's still no solution. I can't understand why Apple does not want to turn this feature off. Who really uses this function?!

Can any one confirm that it's because of the headset with a speaker that's causing the problem? Or there are other issues?

    Thanks

I hate the voice control function. Errant dialing, and song playing...Unacceptable. Why can't Apple let us disable it? I need to disable it now or I have to let it go. Too many unwanted calls and people are listening to me unbeknownst to me. ***
