iPhone 3GS Headphones activate Voice Control randomly while listening music

Hi,

My new iphone 3gs randomly activates Voice Control while I am listening music trough ipod app. I tried playing music without the headphones plugged and everything was normal. However as soon as i plugged in my new headphones, the voice control kept activating itself randomly.

Should I change my headphones? Is it a software issue? Or Am I activating voice control without knowing something?

Thank you,
EK

They said do a hard reboot by holding the top power button and the home button at the same time and then wait until the apple logo pops up. Do not swipe the off button just hold those buttons until logo pops. That is a hard reboot they said that should fix it. If that doesn't work then they said we should do a restore with a test of the phone with a new setup not a backup restore and see if that works. If that doesn't work it could be a faulty phone.

I have a question for you all who r having this problem? Are you using the headphones that came with the 3GS or r u using the earphones from the previous 3G phones?

Please respond to my email as well if you could!!! lamoni@comcast.net

I tied the hard reboot and after 20 minutes on the treadmill it came back. However about an hour later not working out I tried my headphones during phone call and it was full of static. I wonder if my headphones connection is bad. Could be either the phone or headphones? Anyone else have static while using the headphones on a call?

I am not sure any more. I did the hard reboot too and it did it again to me after. I then tried to call my brother and he could not hear me with the headphones in. He said that it was all static and cutting off. I then opened a new set of headphones that I had from my wifes phone and the static was gone and I couldnt make it happen again. The only thing I can assume is that the sweat in the ear piece or the button controls is causing it to short out or something. But like the guy before this post, I think there should be a setting to disable it. But, on the other hand, it was also made so that we could change music, songs, playlists without touching the phone during workouts. So something needs to happen.

I have a feeling this is a "sit and wait" situation. This is almost certainly a software bug that will need to be fixed in a software update from Apple. I can't imagine we'll be waiting too long...

And now it's July 19th... how long are we supposed to "sit and wait" before Apple does something? I've read about this same problem on many sites, so obviously Apple is aware... their quality control is slipping a bit, I fear.

I stumbled upon this while I was researching for a solution too. I got my Vibe Duo's replaced per the V-Moda warranty and when I started using them on the my new 3GS, the audio would randomly cut out. I'm not sure if it's the phone or they sent me a faulty replacement but I am experiencing the volume jumping as well. Anyone heard of solutions yet?

I too have had 2-3 workouts ruined by this. My Voice controls goes bananas, but randomly and sometimes not till 20 mins in and sometimes not at all. The only connection I could make was sweating when the issue occured. People calling me are super faint and clicker buttons don't function as intended (not at all most the time)I am going out to buy new head phones and wait for answers

Yesterday I experienced the same issue as described throughout this thread. Voice control would activate randomly and repeatedly.

The first time it occurred I did a reset and the issue was resolved.

Later in the day it happened again and unplugging the standard iPhone earbuds resolved the issue.

Today I called apple and both customer service reps I spoke to said they had never heard of this problem. I think the more people who contact Apple to alert them to this problem the sonner they may be able to troubleshoot and devise a remedy.

I too have been experiencing this problem from the moment I bought my new 3GS 32 gig.

It really ***. I can't get through a tune or a video without voice control popping up.

Hard Reboots don't help at all.

It's most problematic with my Vibe Duo Headphones, but I've also experienced it with the regular apple headphones.

So frustrating!!!! APPLE!!!! HEY!!! Can you hear us?

my Vmoda Vibe II duo is having similar problems. i've the button is completely useless, sometimes it will trigger the voice control command while i click once, most of the time it doesn't has any kind of response. the headphone works well with the iphone 3g as well, but the button is completely useless in iphone 3gs..

hope a fix will be released soon... the vmoda headphone is really expensive to become a useless artifact.

Had this problem a month ago. Apple warranty replaced the headphones. However, the problem has not been solved. After reading this, I thought that it might be the sweat thing as I use the headphones to work out all the time. However, I experimented with taking the microphone side out and keeping it away from sweat, and it seemed to still randomly activate voice control.

Everyone is right, this is totally unacceptable. I'm making another genius appointment today.

I thought it was perspiration, too, until I tried an experiment where I carefully covered the remote part of the headset with some electrical tape. Ten minutes into my run, no difference. Voice control still activates randomly. My only solution has been to revert to a standard set of earbuds with no remote, but this isn't much of a solution as I lose the ability to take calls and control the iPod.

Apple, we need a real fix for this. Please address this in iPhone OS 3.10
