autotune problems installing

hi - after trying to make it work for an hour i am infuriated by how difficult a simple task of installing a plugin in proving. on pc it's a piece of cake...

anyway, ive downloaded antares autotune evo demo (au version) and installed it. it told me it had installed fine but it's nowhere to be found within logic. reinstalled about 15 times and nothing. how do i use the plugin and what is the problem?

any help appreciated.

+"on pc it's a piece of cake..."+

From my long experience with both platforms, whenever anyone says this it's because they expect things to work the same way on each platform. Of course, they don't — which is the point, really.

It sounds like you are expecting something to happen on a Mac that normally happens on a PC. But I expect you have actually long since achieved what you wanted to do — & you just didn't realise it. This is because, in fact, this kind of thing is easier on a Mac.

Bee Jay's post is the short & sweet technical response which will actually sort you out; this post is just a philosophical rumination which you can ignore if it doesn't have the intended reassuring effect.

thanks for your assistance.

It is listed in Logic -> Preferences -> Start AU Manager, but says it doesnt pass authorisation and directs me to install InterLok extensions. Again, I have done this 20 times and nothing. I thought with demo didn't need authorisation for first 10 days?

The .component file is in /Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/Components/.

Any further ideas at all?

Then that is most likely why it isn't working.

It is an iLok plugin, which usually means to use it, you actually need an iLok, and you download a time-limited demo license to the iLok which lets you use the plugin.

I don't know about that particular pluginm but I expect that is how it works - the same with Syncrosoft-protected plugins - you still need the dongle to install the demo license on to use it.

Now, perhaps the Arturia has a variant of iLok which enables a temporary hard disk authorisation and so doesn't need a key - but you'll still need to install the Interlok drivers to enable this to work. The fact that you are being prompted means you have neither the Interlok drivers active on your system, and/or you don't have an iLok.

Does the demo come with an installation readme?

InterLok… ouch. Endless trouble…

Perhaps the demo will indeed work once it knows that InterLok is installed; did the InterLok installer mention a restart being required? Did it say anything about system requirements? At the risk of asking you to repeat an unpleasant task, you could run the installer once more — not to install, but just to read the documentation if that isn't available separately.

Ok, I just downloaded the demo.

I actually already have Interlok running and an iLok (for Waves stuff), but I still get the exact behaviour you see, even after installing the Interlok drivers that come with the demo and restarting.

Note that the Pace site says:-

IMPORTANT!
If you're running Mac OS X 10.5 or above and your software keeps driving you back to this site, even after installing the latest extensions, then you need to update your software, not the extensions. Contact the publisher of the software you're trying to use regarding a 10.5 compatible update. Please don't contact PACE. Only the publisher of your software can resolve this issue.

In summary - I think the demo is garbage. I'd contact Antares for advice, or give up.
