How to get rid of virtual keyboard letter when not using keyboard

I've noticed after i got my 3GS that if i go to the search a J pops up and doesn't go away after i've exited the search or tapped on a searched item then returned to the home screen from that item, the J stays. If i open an app then close it, the J goes away, but not always. I really don't want to erase everything and start over cause the backup function in iTunes is useless, it never restores my app information, which is a pain for apps like Stanza and myHomework. Any thoughts would be great. Thanks

Try hitting the X (delete) button all the way to the right of the search colum. Then the searched items will disappear. Close the search and return and it should be cleared.

You might be confused on what i'm talking about. When you push a letter on the keyboard, the Letter is enlarged so you can see it right, well that enlarged letter is appearing on the keyboard all the time, even if you close the search and go back to springboard. But its only happening on search, messages, mail, and such don't have this problem.

Now I get it. This is a long shot but try going to settings, home, search results and un-check all categories. Do a hard reboot and see what happens. If no luck sounds like a restore is in order unfortunately dude.
