Itunes store language

Recently my Itunes store is only in Dutch. I am an expat living in Amsterdam and I did create my account here. I said that I live in the netherlands but it gave me the option of using English as my preferred language. This worked fine, but recently (I assume after an update) my Itunes store only displays in dutch. I tried changing the country at the bottom but it says I can only use the Dutch store.

Anyone know if I can change this? Thanks!

I'm not going to be of much help but I can confirm what you are seeing. Dutchie who hates mixed language interfaces here, so English is the only choice that works- normally.

Followed all the steps in the linked article above, too (UK english is on top of the languages list in International); latest versions of Leopard & iTunes (8.2 23).

This needs to be fixed, it's highly annoying.

Agreed - I am also having the same issue (living in the NL but English) and completely frustrated at this change. I am further frustrated as I pointed out to the iTunes store on the 11th of Jan this year as the titles of sections on the main page were in Dutch even though I had English selected as my language. They apologised and said that they would provide the feedback to Apple. So that was of no use, as they whole thing is in Dutch now.

Well I am sorry but as a long term Apple user (back even to the days of the Apple II) I am getting rather fed up with their shift to becoming another Microsoft. I cannot be bothered to fight my way through all of the Dutch so I will be looking for a different online music provider unless they fix this 'problem'.

@phandam: sure, no problem - can you tell me where to direct my message to?

Then again, I think you and the other non-dutch have a somewhat stronger story here - the change is obviously quite bad for anyone non-Dutch with a Dutch cc (& therefore a Dutch iTunes account).

As for me, I'm just quite annoyed at the messy Dutch & English mixed bag of an interface - not quite what I bought my Mac (or iPhone) for.

You are probably right, I will also send a message and/or call. This is the info I got from the iTunes store:

+Just tell them you've tried all the troubleshooting iTunes Store Customer Support could provide. A representative will be able to tell you about Apple's complimentary and fee-based support options and can help you determine which option will be most helpful in this case. To find the appropriate phone number, please visit:+

The ability to switch between languages easily was also one of the reasons I switched to Mac.

Hey guys, just wanted you and anybody else watching to know that I'm also following this thread closely. I'm a Dutch citizen and resident, but absolutely despise software using the Dutch language. It's annoying, and detracts from the overall experience. It just isn't a language designed for displaying alerts and whatnot in...

Anyhow, my two cents, hope it gets fixed!

Best regards, Pat

-edit: I'm talking about iTunes and Apps on the iPhone, for some reason I thought that's what this thread was about. Sorry about that. Still, a solution might pop up here which'll help me as well so I'll be following still.

Hi, I also have the same issue and have logged it with Apple support.
The "fix" Apple suggest does not work.

If the local NL support aren't willing to fix it, I'll send email direct to the US explaining that they can either fix the problem, transfer my account to the US or UK Store or I'll stop buying from Apple, jailbreak the phone and go that route.

Apple if you're reading any of these threads, whilst I respect the Dutch culture and language you should factor in 2 things:
1) 70% of the Amsterdam population(according to the Govt) is not Dutch, we all come from somewhere else and English is our common language. So this decision has reduced apples available sales market significantly.
2) Even ABN AMRO the most stubborn of Dutch banks had to provide English pages to get decent take up of their internet banking.

I'd suggest all users affected send similar emails, maybe enough volume will convince them.

Rob,

I have been in contact with the iTunes Store (iTunesStoreSupport@apple.com) and got the following response.... Maybe if we all call the phone number that they may do something about it, although I doubt it. I think that Apple lost the ability to listen to their customers.

I'm so sorry to hear that the language issue is getting worse and you
haven't been able to change anything back to English. This must be
extremely frustrating.

Although your request for assistance has reached iTunes Store support
which answers non-technical questions, exclusively about billing, I'll
do my best to find some helpful information for you.

I have tried searching to see if there are any other ways to change
the language, but I just keep getting the same article that I sent you
previously.

Here is an article I found in Apple's knowledge base for you:

iTunes: Changing the display language
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2242

Because the steps in this article don't seem to be working for you, I
recommend that you contact technical support at (31) 0900 7777 703.
There may be a setting on your computer that is blocking the change.

Also, a wide variety of helpful tutorials, troubleshooting tips, and
support information can be found on the iTunes support website:

http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/ww

Or, to post questions and read answers provided by other iTunes users,
who my be experiencing the same issue, you can participate in iTunes
discussions at our Discussions forum:

http://discussions.apple.com/category.jspa?categoryID=149

Sorry I couldn't have been more help. Take care.

Sincerely,

iTunes Store Customer Support

Ok
Well after a comedy phone call to NL Apple Support on that number, the help representative much to his surprise found he was also stuck with Dutch and couldn't change it...
To be fair he realised it really was a problem and said he would report it, but suggested that the more people who called the number +31(0)900 777 7703 select option 5 and then ask them to speak English the higher profile the issue would get.
He also suggested logging it again the more the merrier at this link
http://www.apple.com/nl/support/itunes/store/apps/

Maybe we'll get somewhere and people in other affected countries should probably follow this route again.

Regards

Rob
