hello, i cannot add new printer. in print utility setup, default window appears model(mp 260) and USB but can't find driver. can't click add button. installed succesfully driver both from setup cd and downloaded from canon support site. already run printer setup repair software, both reset printing system and permission repair. ps in library/printers folder empty, so is system profiler/hardware/printers
scanning on the other hand works with no problems
With the printer connected via USB, the Canon driver should be automatically selected when you add the printer - you cannot browse to the model in the Print Using menu.
Since the model is not being found then I suggest you try the following.
1. Navigate to Library > Printers > Canon and delete the contents of the BJPrinters folder.
2. Go to Library > Receipts and delete the files showing Canon MP260 xxx.pkg
3. Empty the Trash
4. Unplug the Canon USB cable and restart the Mac
5. Install the version of the Canon driver you downloaded from the web site
6. Once the driver installation is complete, run Repair Disk Permissions.
7. Open Printer Setup Utility and click Add. Select the Default Browser view and select the Canon printer connected via the USB port. The Print Using menu should automatically change to Canon IJ Printer.
8. Click Add to add the printer.
thanks a lot for answering! followed complete procedure, didn't work. in delault window appears model and position, but when i select it after searching "print with" stays grey saying select driver or model.(ps when i look down in canon the bjc gimp print drivers are still there, shouldn't they be gone?)
tried the same in a newly created account but same result. whats up next?????
If the printer appears in the browser window but the driver fails to be found, then there may be a problem with the USB cable. They have been known to cause these types of issues.
As for the Gutenprint drivers, they are located in a different place to the Canon > BJPrinter folder so that is why you still saw them in the list.
I tried to install the printer with the new usb cable i use on a friends laptop just to exclude 100% a failure in the canon itself and it works perfectly. so there must be a failure in my system i suppose.
do I have to reinstall it? just one little problem, the original disks of my ibook are in my house in Italy for the moment. is there a way to do it without these disks or are there other options left?
Since you have already tried resetting the printing system, repairing disk permissions and using the PSR utility, then the only additional thing I can suggest is you could try downloading the Combo Updater 10.4.11. Not only will this update you from 10.4.7 but it has been known to resolve problems with the printing system.
I had already done this, also tried applejack.it's a mystery to me.
I'll have to reintall OSX I suppose. is there a way to do this safely without the original disk?
