Mp4 movies (which played on iPhone 3g) not playing on iPhone 3gs
I had converted a lot of avi. Files into mpeg 4 format and was able to play them on the iPhone 3g without any problems. I bought an iPhone 3gs 2 days ago and have transferred my video files (through iTunes) onto the 3gs. I have found that some files will play, but the majority now have a green background and are very pixelated as it moves from one frame to the next. The audio appears to be ok. Has anyone else come across this problem? It's very frustrating! I would not have got the 3gs if I knew I'd have this problem.
In iTunes, select one of the bad videos, then (in the Advanced menu) "Create iPod or iPhone version". After you have done that, sync the new versions to the iPhone.
Thanks for you reply, but... I've tried this and it says that the file is already using the correct format.
I spoke to the Apple Store a little while ago and the chap told me that the Iphone 3gs shouldn't be doing this and it is most likely a hardware fault. He said to try a 'restore' thorugh itunes and if this doesn't rectify the problem take it to the Apple Store (Regent's Street). If they can't fix it, they will replace it.

I have a similar problem, iTunes tells me that none of my movies have been rented. They used to work and now don't
Maybe you need to log in again ... In iTunes, log in to the account that rented the movies. Then sync the iPhone. That should set the iPhone on that same account.
i think we r the only two most unlucky iphone 3gS customers in the world!i queued for that phone nearly 3 hours in the launch day!midmight!very upset!still waiting for the result of the assessment.
I'm having the same issue a bunch of older movies that I had work fine but anything newer that I try won't work on the iphone 3gs. I see the same green screen or a frozen image with voice working fine. I guess I'll wait a week or two and see if a solution surfaces before I take my phone it.
Guys, what software are you using to convert the videos. I'm using Aimersoft Video Converter and could fix the video changing the codec to H.264 but the audio is messed up. Sounds to me this can be a settings issue.
i am using the same software to convert those movies to MP4 format, and now after the assessment being made, they told me to give me a new replacement handset, apparently its my 3G IPHONE S has some hardware problem, coz THOSE MOVIES all working fine in my 3G IPHONE and itune.
I'm having the same issues, all the movies I had working on 2G phone is green with audio. All the movies work in iTunes but not on the 3GS. Anyone find a real fix besides returning phone?????
I'm having the same issue with my 3GS, mp4 files converted with Aimersoft that play on my wifes 3g running OS 3.0 (which use to be mine and played everything ok) but my 3gs gives me the green screen. Audio is OK however, I spoke with an Apple expert and they don't have an answer. My carrier is suppose to send me a replacement but of course they are out of stock. Hopefully it's just a software bug since it was **** getting this 3GS!!
I had a music video that I converted onto the iphone 3gs and I also had a green screen with audio video from Aimersoft and thats how I found this thread.
I then went into the itunes and did what Gerald Edgar said above with the same video and in the Advanced menu "Create iPod or iPhone version" and it works fine on my iphone 3gs now. 🙂
I'm having a similar problem. I have downloaded a tv show from the Itunes store and when I try to sync it to my 3gs iPhone it says "this video is not supported" also I had some videos that worked on the first gem iPhone that won't work on the 3Gs
I have a solution, at least it worked for me. I looked at the video file that I purchased from iTunes and a video I converted my self and found that the videos that were working were running codec H.264. So I went back to my old videos that were working previously and converted them using the above codec and all the green twitching mess was gone. I used Wondershare to convert my DVDs to the format. I guess the 3GS does not like the old codecs. All the videos are working perfectly now.
