Can I download old iDVD themes for iDVD 7.0.3?

Hi Guys,

I've just upgrded to a Mac Pro/DVDSP but need to get a wedding job I shot onto DVD asap. I now have DVDSP but it appears failry complex, and I will teach myself how to use it over the next month but I need this job finished asap so want to just use iDVD.

My old mac had a "wedding silver" theme that I used, but my new version doesn't have it. It's in the "old themes" folder but it is ghosted and cannot be selected. I've had a look around the boards and support sections for the last hour and can't seem to find a simply concise way of getting this old theme into iDVd 7.0.3.

I thought i'd just be able to download them somewhere?

By the way, my Mac Pro isn't online, I use a different computer for internet use (I don't know if that information will affect anyones suggested solution, ie just using the onine software update)

I'm growing quite frustrated by this so any help would be greatly appreciated.

Did you ever have these themes available in iDVD? To the best of my knowledge, they are not available as a download.

Here are some things that you can try.

1. Quit iDVD and delete your iDVD preferences. To do this, go to your username> library> preferences> com.apple.idvd.plist. Delete this file. Then reopen iDVD; it will create a new preference file with all of the default settings.

2. Do a verify and repair of permissions using Disk Utility.

From previous advice from Old Toad:

3. Look in the HD/Libary/Application Support/iDVD folder for the Themes folder. If it's not there look in your User/Library/iDVD folder. If the Themes folder is there move it to the HD/Libary/Application Support/iDVD folder, reboot and try iDVD again.

4. Reinstall iDVD from the iLife disks or the system install disks that came with your Mac. Prior to installing you need to delete the current application and all files with "iDVD" in the file name that are in the HD/Library/Receipts folder. Also delete the Themes folder if you found it previously. Reinstall iDVD, run the latest update, repair disk permissions and reboot.

I hope this helps.

The themes you are wanting don't "come" with your version (as you have gathered) of iDVD but they do with the original OSX. If you have the original "old" Mac's disks (you don't say that it is not a MacPro so I am hoping) you can install by attempting to select the Silver Wedding theme while in iDVD and following instructions.

I actually was after the same theme from within nearly the same version of iDVD (7.0.4) and that is what worked for me- selecting a custom install from the original installer disks which came with my MacBook Pro back in late 2007.

Note- they did not appear straight away, but I literally just checked and they have appeared so make sure you restart as per good practice.
