Aperture crashes when exporting.

I am having the same issue. If it matters, I am on a G5 PowerMac.

Me too!!! Sent crash-report to Apple every time. No matter if i´m exporting to internal or external HD. What is going on???

Just out of curiosity and for the sake of troubleshooting: do any of you have export plugins installed? I once ran into this type of problem and tracked it down to an older version of Border FX...

For what its worth... Aperture has recently been crashing on me on a very consistent basis. I noticed it during exports.

I did an extended hardware test on the entire system (including RAM and video memory). All passed.

iMac 2.8GHz, 4GB RAM, 256 MB video card.

I do not have any Aperture plug-ins either. My workspace keeps pretty cool: right around the mid 60's, and my fans aren't revving up so I don't think it's a heat issue.

Just an update:

I contacted Apple support. They wanted $200 for the support phone call. The same price of the program! Sheesh... pretty smart though. Make something that you will break in the future so your customers are blackmailed to pay full pop to fix / replace it. I'm in the wrong business.

THIS DID NOT SOLVE THE PROBLEM AT ALL!!!

The update: Aperture crashes all the time when trying to export batches of images. Going form RAW file exporting to jpegs.

This is sucking large. All that time and effort building an extensive Aperture only to now consider using another more reliable, truly PRO app!

After an irritating evening of attempting to export 5,500 image files (from a Smart Album with a range of dates) from Aperture, it never worked - Aperture would crash and quit after exporting anything from 30 to 1,200 images. After seven or eight crashes, I changed my strategy.

SOLUTION: The one method that finally worked was based on what I'd read in the Aperture manual just before starting this: Exporting a Project - which has a special submenu entry in the File/Export menu. I think this was my process:

* Made a Project (name it something temporary for your export)
* I created a Smart Album of all images between two dates (you could just do this as a filter operation in Aperture's browser).
* Selected All in the Smart Album.
* Selected "Make album from selection."
* Named album with temporary name.
* Dragged this album into my export-only project
* Selected File/Export/Export Project

This resulted in a successful export of all 5,500 images.

I have the same problem. Exportin a couple of hundreds of pictures is not possible because Aperture always crushes.

@ Ellsworth Chou: I tried what you suggested and, yes, it worked. But what was exported then was not only the picture but the whole app-project. I "simply" want to export all my pictures to a large image tank. Seems to be not possible with Aperture.

I will now try the other thing. I have BorderFX and Facebook Exporter, too. Maybe, if you delete them it will work.

I deleted all export plugins and tried again. After around 1200 pictures or so had been exported Aperture crashed again.

I really would like to solve this problem because I bought a 500 GB image tank in order to have all my pictures in this tank. But exporting 30.000 pics is really a hassle when Aperture is crashing all the time.

I take it no one has any progress with this yet?

I can't export anything without it crashing all the time. I even did a clean sweep with maintenance 3.8, rebooted, got about another 100 pictures out of one album, and the crashes started again.

Same problem here, never a problem till now.

Last time I exported was 6/25 and no problems with > 8,000 images.

ok, I followed these ( http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2945?viewlocale=en_US ) instructions to "reinstall" Aperture. I haven't tried to export more than 200 images at a time, but it seems to be working for now.

Note, I am using a Macbook Pro - Leopard 10.5.8 - Aperture 2.0 DVD install disc.

I didn't install any of the updates after the install.


From that link, I can't perform the "database rebuild" from the instructions they provide.

"Perform a Consistency Check on the library

Press and hold the Command and Option keys while you open Aperture."

I hold those two buttons and nothing happens.

I think its important to note that when I contacted support, they directed me to the help page that tells you how to do a complete delete and re-install of Aperture. I also updated my OS and Aperture to all the latest versions. I don't understand the constant crashing but I think that if you have a problem with Aperture, always submit the crash report to Apple and also call their support line. It is apparent by now that this is not a unique error but something affecting multiple users. Apple needs to be aware of this and fix it.

I will now book an appointment at the genius bar at my local Apple store and run Aperture and have the computer crash right in front of them. I wonder if it has anything to do with the graphics card???
