Backing Up Itunes to External Drive

I have a back up drive which I use to back up all my pics and docs to, but is there a way to back up my library to my device? I tried making a back up but its preset to a DVD Drive to make a disc? Anyone has any ideas on wether I can or can't do this and if so, How?

Thanks

That's the only option in iTunes - CD or DVD. Not only is it time-consuming, it is not very reliable when it comes to restoring.

Assuming you are using the default itunes setup, use Windows Explorer back up the entire My Music folder under your user profile. This will back up the itunes database, plus all the music/video/apps/artwork files.

On XP the path is
C:\Documents and Settings\ username \My Documents\My Music

Just drag that folder over to the ex HD.
