Will my defective Iphone 3G S be replaced with a refurbished one?
I purchased my new Iphone 3G S a little over a week ago, I have a couple of issues the screen is not flush and the adhesive on the side is coming off. Will it be replaced for a new or refurbished Iphone 3G S.
Generally, they are replaced with refurbished units. As a side note, you shouldn't be too concerned of that policy because all of our refurbs were excellent.
I have a same problem like yours as the screen is not flush with the body and took it to genius bar and got replacement with a new one.
According to Genius Bar, there is NO refurbished one yet as it is too new which makes sense.
Here is my dilemma, my replacement unit still have a problem with a screen not being flush, but didn't want to be a pain in the A** and walked out but still have concern.
Is screen not flush covered by warranty? Should I keep going back to Apple to get the right one?
I picked up my iPhone about 5 minutes after 7 on launch day and I had to get a new iPhone after one week because it would not vibrate. I was given the option of getting one new from the retail boxes, but I would have had to go back home, and get the original box for a return. Or I was given the choice to get take one from the "refurbished" box. The genius tech didn't think it was really a refurb since it was only a week after launch, and there would not be any refurbished models back in the chain yet.
I chose the "refurbished" one since I was too lazy to go back home. If this one has to be exchanged, I may go the brand new route.
I have the same problem with my new one too, rang apple as we have no stores here in Ireland and they are sending a courier out to my house with the new one and taking back my old one, sorted! It seems to me that a lot of people are having the same issue with bezel being raised on the right hand side, seems like an assembly defect.
I am waiting for my replacement to come into the apple store in Charlotte. They sell out everyday. Have 3GS refurbs come out now? I think it's kind of unfair to trade my broken new iPhone for a refurbished one.

I would expect that. A refurb is likely to be preferred, since they probably receive more scrutiny than one coming off a production line.
Two different policies? One for online and one for in-store. I guess if you need to ship it and get the phone to the warehouse within 30 days that makes sense.
Going to the Apple store and getting a white boxed "refurb" are only the ones coming off the production line with manufacturing defects. The defects are corrected and they are boxed in "refurb" boxes. Trying to find where I read this, this however will not be the case forever.
