Recording Levels

Sorry as I am a newbie to logic.
Anyway, that out of the way but I having trouble recording my guitar. When I plug my guitar into my iMac via the built in input I always get a distorted sound due to really high recording levels. when I used the guitar in garageband all I had to do was drag the little recording levels slider down a little. Could someone please tell me how I would go about this in logic please?

Thanks in advance!

You shouldn't plug a guitar directly into your Built-in Inputs. The guitar level will indeed be too high; there is a mismatch. I'm not even going to suggest a workaround, because you really need to get some kind of interface to go between the guitar & the Mac.

I realise this isn't the best news you could expect to hear, but unfortunately this is just the way it is…

There are many different ways of sorting this problem; one way would be to use a mixing desk. A more generally popular way would be to get an audio interface with jack inputs designed for guitars. Then there are more elaborate versions with more Inputs & Outputs… there are thousands of different devices available.

I'm sure some people will come along in a moment with their particular recommendations, so best of luck, & make a good choice!
