Hello Michael,

Welcome to Apple Discussions.

what is bonour
Apple says:

"Bonjour lets you create an instant network of computers and smart devices just by getting them connected to each other."

Bonjour is one of the features built into Tiger (Mac OS X 10.4).

... and jabber chatting?
in Mac usage, Jabber is another way to connect iChat AV 3 beyond the AIM server and Bonjour.

Search iChat > Help > iChat Help on your Mac for "jabber" (without the quotation marks) for info on using jabber in iChat AV.

The most basic explanation of jabber for iChat AV that I have seen is in the " Secure Chat" section (you will need to scroll down in the page) in this MacWorld Expanding your chats article.

You can use the jabber connection in iChat AV to text chat. There is some more info on how to use jabber with iChat AV in the Microsoft / MSN, Yahoo, Win Messengers & iChat? FAQ

iChat AV users who have jabber names can also use it to connect to other iChat AV users who have jabber names for audio or video chats, but cross-platform AV is not supported, at least at the present time.

If you want to try using jabber after you get it set up, Gilbert N. Taylor offers to test and has a jabber account.
