Connect them with a FireWire 400 to FireWire 800 cable, use the Migration Assistant to migrate accounts over, and transfer or reinstall applications manually.
Thank you! Would USB also work? And the Firewire cables for sale on apple.com are labeled as 4 or 6 pin, not 400 or 800, so how do I know which cable works?
No, USB will not work. You need a 6-pin to 9-pin cable (your iBook has a 6-pin port, which is FW400, the MBP has a 9-pin port, which is FW800 and fully backward compatible with FW400).
