Incoming/Outgoing call problems on 2g iPhone running 3.0

I was hoping someone might be able to help. For some reason since upgrading my 2g iPhone to 3.0 my incoming and outgoing calls seem to be an issue. Here is what happens if my phone is sitting say for 20 minutes with no activity and someone calls me when I try and answer it I get no sound and they get no sound. I will not be able to make any outgoing calls or get any calls untill I restart the phone. I then can make and receive calls???? What is going on here???? Has anyone had any similiar problem? I tried restoring my phone to 3.0 again but still have the issue. If anyone could help that would be appreciated before I have to downgrade because I keep missing calls and the restarting process is ridiculous.

Thanks

You are not alone. Mt wife and daughter both have the 2G iPhone and I have a 3G iPhone.
The 2 x 2G's could make incoming an outgoing calls to land lines but not to my 3G iPhone. Most calls were going straight into answer phone, any text sent took forever to either send or be received (many hours) and battery life was incredibly short and the battery was getting very hot.

This worked for the two 2G iphones and the 3G iPhone following upgrading to version 3.0 from 2.2;

1. Go to Settings app on the iPhone > General > Scroll down to "Reset" and the select the top option to "Reset All Settings" This will reset the settings and reboot.

2. Go to Settings app on the iPhone > General > Scroll down to "Reset" and the select the 3rd option to "Reset Network Settings" This will reset the settings and reboot.

3. Now plug the iphone and connect to iTunes and click on the "Info" Tab

4. Manually check the synchronisation settings as they may need to be reset to how you want them to work - just act like you are starting from scratch. (contacts, music, etc.)

Problem solved !!

Obviously turn off Fetch, Push, Wifi, 3G etc if not required to maximise battery life.

WOW!!! So far so good..granted I had to remember all of my settings and my springboard was all over the map that is the least of my problems. I actually got an incoming call and it worked!!! Thanks a bunch hopefully everything sticks here and I won't be coming back to this thread but will let you know if anything else comes up. I really appreciate the help. The funny thing is I tried resetting the Network settings but never did the "Reset All" option as I didn't feel like starting from scratch but well worth the sacrifice to get calls...I guess that is the point of having the phone.

Have a good holiday.
