The great irony is the economy of scale here. If you are selling to a country where the salary is 10% that of another country, you are probably only going to sell 1/10th the number of units to that country, all else being even. If the population of the said country is less, you are probably only going to sell 1/100th the number of units. Now throw in this monkeywrench, the demand is just as high, if not higher, because the ability of the machine to handle your language's fonts is that much better for publishing. Then throw in the startup costs for a new business, which would reduce the number of possible authorized resellers. If you don't have the money to start a new business, you aren't as likely to have as many businesses. Logic would preclude there being as many authorized resellers per capita. Without the marketing capability via a number of widespread businesses, you have little justification to send as many product to some countries as others. Unfortunately that's how this world works, and what makes it hard for countries with less disposable income to get off the ground economically. I'm not saying that's why Apple in particular may cost more, but laws of economics suggest why it may happen that way. If it does happen that way, I can't say, as that would be speculation.
