need help with Reinstalling Parallels, thanks!

I've been to the Parallels forum, but couldn't find a category for my topic, so it's why i'm here, thanks for reading!

I installed Parallels immediately after I bought the mac. Few days later, I found out that my mac didn't come with the Utilities folder already installed, so I called apple, and had to do an Archive and Install to get back my Utilities. I made a mistake when I was moving the contents of the Previous Systems folder to the newly installed folders. The Library folder was way too big to move, and after checking some of the softwares that I needed (like MS Office etc., just not Parallels, unfortunately), I just deleted everything in the Previous Systems folder. I have no idea why I did such a dumb thing 😟

Parallels did not work afterwards and I decided to delete everything related and reinstall it. And I made another silly mistake by manually moving everything instead of using the "Uninstall Parallels" application (but I didn't find it until after I deleted everything anyway..). So right now when I try to run the Parallels installation, it would say "Uninstall Parallels", when I click that, it would say "Uninstall Failed, Parallels Desktop is not installed." I know that I didn't clear out everything, so the installation wizard thinks that i still have parallels on the mac. Right now I don't know what to do. Please help! I'm an absolute newbie at macs, so I need parallels to run windows-specific files.

Thanks in advance! 🙂

Uninstalling Software: The Basics

Most OS X applications are completely self-contained "packages" that can be uninstalled by simply dragging the application to the Trash. Applications may create preference files that are stored in the /Home/Library/Preferences/ folder. Although they do nothing once you delete the associated application, they do take up some disk space. If you want you can look for them in the above location and delete them, too.

Some applications may install an uninstaller program that can be used to remove the application. In some cases the uninstaller may be part of the application's installer, and is invoked by clicking on a Customize button that will appear during the install process.

Some applications may install components in the /Home/Library/Applications Support/ folder. You can also check there to see if the application has created a folder. You can also delete the folder that's in the Applications Support folder. Again, they don't do anything but take up disk space once the application is trashed.

Some applications may install a startupitem or a Log In item. Startupitems are usually installed in the /Library/StartupItems/ folder and less often in the /Home/Library/StartupItems/ folder. Log In Items are set in the Accounts preferences. Open System Preferences, click on the Accounts icon, then click on the LogIn Items tab. Locate the item in the list for the application you want to remove and click on the "-" button to delete it from the list.

If an application installs any other files the best way to track them down is to do a Finder search using the application name or the developer name as the search term. Unfortunately Spotlight will not look in certain folders by default. You can modify Spotlight's behavior or use a third-party search utility, Easy Find, instead. Download Easy Find at VersionTracker or MacUpdate.

There are also several shareware utilities that can uninstall applications:
AppZapper
CleanApp
Yank
SuperPop
Uninstaller
Spring Cleaning

Look for them at VersionTracker or MacUpdate.

And be sure to check in the /Library/Receipts/ folder for a Parallels package. If you find one be sure to delete it as well.

I am having issues with Parallels and cannot find a solution for almost a week now! Even Parallels team cannot help (they keep referring to links of instructions from their website that I had found before contacting them, and didn't work for me; http://kb.parallels.com/en/5734, http://kb.parallels.com/en/5734... among others, none worked). One of the suggestions is to re-install Windows XP, but since I installed XP in 2007, I have relocated and didn't keep the CD (never had to use it for repair or re-install).

I even tried to uninstall, and re-install, which didn't change the problem. Even tried downloading VMware and VirtualBox, and none work. Which makes me think that the last parallels update changed a setting on my MacBook! Parallels team cannot even guide me, so i need help fixing the issue without having Windows XP CD. Any help would be just life saving.

I have been using parallels since over 2 years, and I upgraded from version 3.0 to 4.0 earlier this summer. The latest version 4.0 has been working fine for a month or so, and I have a blocking problem since upgrading to 4.0.3846.

When I start Parallels desktop, I get the following message:

"UNABLE TO CONNECT HARD DISK 1

Then on the black Parallels display:

SCSI controller is not installed.
Network bootrom is installed.
Trying to boot from Primary Master IDE drive ... failed
Tring to boot from CD-ROM drive ... failed
Trying to boot from Floppy ...

Non-system disk or disk error
Replace and press any key when ready"

Hi,

I just installed Parallels 5.0, and got same message when starting parallels. Using Snow Leopard. I fixed it by going to menu "Virtual Machine", selecting "Configure...". Choosing "Hard Disk 1" and then in "Source" I had two hard drives; one named "Bla bla (disk0)" and one named "Bla bla". Then one named "Bla bla" was selected when I got the error message you received. By choosing the the "Bla bla (disk0)" the problems was fixed.

Good luck!
