How to turn OFF the ATT service, and have only WiFi

To save battery, and also to ensure that I don't receive any calls which use my Cell minutes, I'd like to be able to turn off the radio (cell receiver) on my iphone, and JUST connect via WiFi. There is a setting on my Blackberry to do this and, embarrassingly enough, even though I've gone through the manual, I can't seem to see how to do this on the iPhone. There HAS to be a way...doesn't there?

It's easy to do. Put the iPhone into Airplane Mode, which turns off all radio devices, and then manually turn on WiFi.

In the US, if you get a call from a landline or a non-ATT cell phone, it uses minutes. If you receive an SMS, that uses up one of your SMS allotments also.

Actually ATT has a plan that will let ANY ATT phone - cell or landline connect without using any minutes. It is called Unity, I have the family plan for that so not sure if there is a single user plan. 97 percent of my calls come from ATT landlines or ATT cell phones and do not use any minutes off my plan

How do you get online then?

I was just browsing AT&T tariffs and comparing them to their UK counterparts. Do you not get unlimited WiFi? (As in WIfi provided by or in partnership with your carrier).

I just see this which leaves me wondering;
+AT&T is Apple's exclusive carrier partner for iPhone in the United States. An eligible data plan for iPhone is required. This data plan covers data usage in the United States and does not cover international data usage and charges. *If AT&T determines that you are using an iPhone on your account without an eligible data plan*, AT&T reserves the right to add an eligible data plan to your account and bill you the appropriate monthly fee.+

There are tons of differences between Europe and US in terms of mobile billing, and I think the US is much better overall. In the USA, it does not cost extra to call a landline versus a mobile, so you never have to worry about which one you're calling. Also, you can port your landline number to your mobile and vice-versa.
