3GS Smudge Proof Screen

It works great. Not only is it harder to smudge, but it's much easier to wipe them off. I don't use a screen protector, but I'd say the purpose of a screen protector is to prevent scratches, not smudges (my last phone has some small scratches on the glass due to lack of a protector).

LOVE IT! the screen wipes clean by just dropping the phone in your pocket for a minute.

The iPhone screen is extremely difficult to scratch. I never used a protector in the year I had my 3G and have no plans to do so with my 3GS. Obviously a screen protector makes the new screen coating useless.

The two posts above describe my feelings, but I also wanted to add that the screen also feels a lot better. Gliding my finger feels a lot better on the screen that it did on the older iPhones. I have heard that the Oleophobic screen might not be as resistant to scratches, but I've only heard it. Just be careful what kind of screen protectors you use, because they could possibly damage the Oleophobic screen.

I know that you should NOT use any screen protectors that uses an adhesive, I believe they sell some screen protectors at Apple and AT&T that use static to adhere and stay on the screen. I don't have a screen protector on my iPhone, but I do have a soft gel case on the back. I just love the natural feel of the iPhone, and to be honest I don't even like the case on the iPhone, so I'm just very careful with my iPhone. ZAGG has released a screen protector that it states is safe to use with the iPhone 3GS, and they are a very very good company. Their products are great and they even sell a thin film to cover the back of the iPhone as well.

As stated works great, but having smudges is a small price to pay to protect your screen. I opted to still use the screen protector after saving my screen 3 times on my 3G.
