Streaming music over Bang & Olufsen sound system

Hi,
this is my first support forum entrance, I hope it is going to be a succesful exercise. Thanks in advance by the way for any support!!

I just installed my new Airport Express succesfully, I see the green light. Then I tried to play music over my Beosound 4 (A Bang & Olufsen sound system), but no music goes via the speakers. Very disappointing!
I did connect into the so called Line Out port with a tulip plug and connected the dubble sided tulip plugs into the Beosound 4 where I selected the 'IN' sockets.
I also selected the external speakers via Air Express in iTunes.

So I believe I did a lot of things right, but probably not everything..??

Looking forward to hearing your advise how to solve this.

Hello RobbieWortelboer. Welcome to the Apple Discussions!

Just to make sure that your AirPort Express Base Station (AX) is working properly, try temporarily connecting a pair of stereo headphones to the AX's audio port. Can you heard sound properly?

If so, then the problem is one of the following:

1) You are using the wrong type of audio cable. The AX supports either analog or digital output. For analog you will need a cable with a 3.5mm stereo plug on the AX's end and the appropriate connector(s) for your Bang & Olufsen. This could be twin RCA or another 3.5mm stereo plug. For digital, you would need a TOSLink cable with a TOSLink-to-3.5mm adapter for the AX-end, and again, the appropriate plug for your B&O.

2) Your B&O does not have the proper audio input port(s), either analog or digital to work with the AX's output.

Hi Tesserax,

impressive feedback, I appreciate it!

I don't have the gear you mention readily available, so I will most likely have to check the alternative cable option. I also found a B&O support telephone number that I can call during weedays. I will check your ideas with them.
I am travelling next week, so I need some time to arrange for the fix, but I will get back to you to let you know if your solution works. Thanks a lot so far!

to all,

the answer was that I had to change the set up of my B&O system. To learn that I contacted the B&O service line and they called me back with instructions how to do this via the remote control. It now works perfectly (I had to use an analog connection by the way, the one I already installed).
