New Logitech QuickCam Fusion USB Camera

It doesn't work on Macs, but it seems to enable my 3 GHz PC to make excellent Mac to PC video conference connections—connections that were audio-only when I was using the Logitech QuickCam Pro 4000 camera.

The difference seems to be in the upgraded Logitech software for the camera that is installed on the PC inasmuch as the video quality on the PC is clearly better than before. The camera itself has a wide-area lens, so it's easy to fit in two or more persons on the PC end.

Alas, the PC video feed to the Mac still freezes after about five minutes, but the PC end continues to receive good video from the Mac, albeit in a very small window. As an aside, Mac to PC video connections to my old 800 MHz PC are not afflicted with the freeze nor are PC to PC video connections.

I'd like to see reports from other users of the QuickCam Fusion camera (price is $80–$100 US) with respect to Mac to PC video connections. Please understand I'm not saying that installing this camera is going to solve all or even many Mac to PC video connection problems. More testing is required.

If anyone wants to try a video connection to this camera on my PC, send a video invitation to jawestond when that screen name is available.

In checking the Logitech Web site, it seems that the following Web cams can use the QuickCam 9.0.2 software on PCs:

QuickCam Orbit MP
QuickCam Pro 5000
QuickCam for Notebook Pro
QuickCam Fusion

Since this software seems to be what is enabling me to make Mac to PC and PC to Mac video conference connections with the QuickCam Fusion camera on my 3GHz PC, using any one of these four cameras on a PC may be helpful in making successful iChat AV to PC AIM video connections.

I would like to see more reports on this, but even at this point, it seems a good bet that any one of these (newer) cameras is a good choice for PC users wanting to make Mac to PC video connections.
