developer 3.0; purple screen w/ USB cable & iTunes; get 0xe800005d error

I've been running the beta edition of 3.0 for awhile.
I'm a registered developer; today my device shows a purple screen with a USB cable & the iTunes icon.

When I plug it in to my computer (I've upgraded to the final release of 8.2) I get "iTunes Could Not Connect to this iPod because an unknown error occurred 0xe800005d"

{I'm heading out on a 8hr road trip tomorrow; I'll be seriously ****** off if I can't get this working.}

I'm on 10.5.7, I've tried this on a box of 10.5.5 as well; same issue. I've read about something with power & the home button on an iPhone; but as this an iTouch I don't think I have a "home" button.

Please help!

OK, but /how/ did you get to restore it?

All I found somebody asking about the same thing in the dev forums, but all he got were four "me, too" replies.

Generally, when you ask something in a forum and then find a solution, please post it for other who will inevitably come across the thread when they have the same problem, a "fixed it!" won't help them.

Thanks.

I am a registered dev as well and encountered the same issue (purple screen of death).

The key to resolving this issue is installing an older version of iTunes. I personally rolled iTunes back to version 8.2b10, which allowed me to access the iPod Touch 1G in restore mode.

iTunes 8.2 Beta 10 (Windows 32-bit):

iTunes 8.2 Beta 10 (Mac):

Hope this helps.
