How long will apple replace iPhones with hardware/software problems

Note: I didn't buy the (expensive) year long warranty thing. Am I only covered for 14 days without that?

incorrect. if you return within 30 days, which also cancels your att acccount (get your phone number held before you return), Apple does NOT charge the restocking fee. this is because you can not leave the store without the box opened for activation of the phone. so they figure since 'they' opened it, it's not fair to charge you the restocking if you are unhappy with the device and want to cancel.

if you do it after the 30 days I believe they do charge the fee. but not before, as I found out when I decided to upgrade to a larger model.

or you can check your credit card companies, renters insurance, home owners insurance. any of which might already be covering the phone for accidental damage, loss or theft at no additional cost.

also, be careful. if you water damage your phone that is NOT covered no matter what else is wrong with the phone. and they are checking every phone these days.

Wrong. You can return an iPhone for payment credit and cancel the AT&T contract within 30 days of the purchase date with no early contract termination fee, and policy is there is a 10% restocking fee when doing so if the packaging is opened. An Apple store may waive the 10% restocking fee, but this would be an exception to policy and not the rule.

You can't return an iPhone for payment credit past the initial 30 days after the purchase date even if the packaging wasn't opened, and you can't cancel the AT&T contract without paying an early contract termination fee.
