Which date are you trying to get to?
How do I get to or set an event for a date prior to January 1951. Right now, I "go to date," input 01/01/51 and then clicking the up arrow button ad nauseum?

In the Go to Date box highlight the year and click the arrow. Then highlight the Month and finally Date.

You can type the date.
I was trying to input my father's birthday on the day he was born in 1942. Right now, by going to "go to date," one can only go as far back as 1951 and then click the back arrow and go through each month of each year until you get to 1942 (unless I'm missing an easier step).
When you go to the "go to date" and type in "51" in the year column, you'll get to that year. If you then go back to "go to date" and type in "51" and then click the arrow so that the number shows "42," you're deposited in 2042. I tried it once and actually did get to 1950. Tried it again and found myself in 2049.
You can enter birthdays in
Address Book and then
iCal can display then.
In Address Book go ro Preferences > Template and Add Field Birthday. Enter the birthdays along with peoples addresses and phone numbers.
Thn in iCal go to Preferences > General and tick Show Birthdays calendar

Don't type "42" type "1942"
I had no trouble typing "1942" and going straight to it.

What versions of OSX and iCal are you using? I'm running OSX 10.3.9 with 1.5.5 iCal, and ...
1. I can only type two digits in the year in the "go to date" area
2. There is no "general" under preferences and nowhere is there the ability to coordinate birthdates from Address Book.
Thanks for your help so far. I'm guessing that this will all be available when I upgrade to 10.4?

Aha! You're right. I'm using iCal 2.0.1 in Tiger. I checked iCal on a 10.3.9 machine and it does only have two digits for the year.

Got it. Another reason to haul my lazy self down to the Apple Store and get Tiger.
Thanks for your help.

How are you able to enter a 4 digit year. I can only enter a 2 digit year? I can type in 1950 and that works, but when I type in anything previous to 1950, iCal always changes it to 20xx.
I am running Tiger with all the System updates.
Thanks,
Gary

I find the same problem the "go to date" dialogue box won't let you type in "1942", you can only type "1951", then use the arrow key to wind the years backward.
This looks like a minor bug. I'm using iCal Version 1.5.5, which I think is the latest. (The backward rewind is pretty fast).

No, Chris: My 10.3.9 machine shows a 4-digit year in iCal 1.5.5
Pre-1951 dates
