Best replacement for Optiarc AD-5630A?

Hi,
I need to replace the Optiarc AD-5630A drive in my 2007 iMac. The drive is not working anymore as the computer fell off the desk (don't ask!!!). The machine is out of warranty and I want to replace the drive myself - got all the tools and skills 🙂

I read that this model is not the best and wonder if it could be replaced with something better? Do these low-profile slot loading drives share the dimensions and mounting spots like hard disks do?

Would this fit

?

What about drivers/firmware compatibility?

Thanks in advance for your kind advice.
Alex
