It is probably much more effective than posting complaints here. Some times upgrades come at a cost. Smart businesses always run tests before committing to an upgrade so they can know what the "cost" will be. Sometimes when apps are rewritten earlier features are missed (or dropped) and it takes a few versions to iron out the bugs.
I've noticed that iCal cuts off the text of some events, while displaying the full text of longer events in the month view. For example, if I create an event titled "Test Event" only "Test" shows up in the day it's created, but if I enter "Longer Event" the entire text shows up, on two lines. These events are on separate days with no other events on those days, so there's nothing to get in their way. Why is this?

You all should post feedback here:

This won't be of help to you, but I'm having the same problem!!! It's really ticking me off. I'll write "Movie at Bob's" and only "Movie at" will show up. I have other days where I have a three line event and only the first two will show. I'd really love for there to be some solution!
(Note, I have not yet tried creating a new user and testing iCal on a fresh system, but I have no plugins to iCal or any settings I'd expect to affect it...)

Yeah, that kind of helps, but it helps some events when you resize one way, and others when you resize the other way. Only if you maximize the window do you really get to see all the text of all events.

My mistake. My head was in the clouds, thinking print, not display. You're right, I didn't change the fonts in the display. What I was able to change was the size in printing the monthly view.

This is so utterly annoying- I never had this issue with previous versions of iCal, and I can't even run those versions on tiger now that I've upgraded. The tiger upgrade in general has disrupted my workflow much more than I thought it would-
Because of the way I use iCal, not seeing the full even title in month mode makes iCal pretty much useless to me. I don't want to have to click between dozens of events that begin with "Renders of" to find which set of renderings are due on which days. Nor do I want to go through and rename all of my "Renders of Levels 1a-3c" etc to make the titles more useful. It should just WORK.
Well, let me know if anyone finds a better way of making this work other than "resizing ad lib until things sorta show up"

I feel so much better knowing that I'm not the only one who can't figure this out. It seems so stupid, I thought I must have been missing an obvious preference or something. Anyway, it drives me crazy as well, and I've wasted far too much time looking for a way to fix it. If anyone finds a solution I'd love to hear about it. thanks
I too wish that more text of an event could be seen when viewing a published calendar in month view via the web. I'm wondering if the solution to this could be by adjusting PHP iCalendar that resides on the server (the place where calendars are published).
I personally don't have much PHP experience. Is there anyone out there that would know how to tweak PHP iCalendar so we could see more of an event's title in month view on a web page?

I am right there with you all! I keep looking in the preferences hoping that something will suddenly appear there allowing me to see the full text of the event. . . Makes me wish i had something other than the PB so i could further maximize the size of the calendar and see everything. It's a MAJOR problem.
I just submitted feedback on the iCal feedback page. I'll post here too. More exposure seems better than less. Here's what I wrote there:

I'm using iCal version 2.0.2 (which is not available in the drop-down list on the iCal feedback web page, so that's another bug), but the problem has existed in versions of iCal from at least a year ago.
Word-wrapping in month view is very inconsistent at different window sizes. Consider an event with a two-word description, such as "Watch Robby". When the application window is wide enough to show the entire description on one line, it does so. As the window is made narrower, the word "Robby" disappears. I could maybe understand this as an attempt to avoid word-wrapping altogether; however, if the window is made even narrower, the word "Robby" re-appears, wrapped onto a second line.
I submitted a bug report on this about a year ago and hoped that the issue might be resolved in Tiger, but there has been absolutely no change. This is very frustrating! I know two people who refuse to use iCal because this inconsistency has caused them to miss important details of events. Surely these can't be the only people who have noticed this problem.

Sure enough, judging by the feedback in this Discussion, the two people I know who refuse to use iCal are not the only ones who have noticed the problem. 🙂

I use phpicalendar. It also cuts off the events by adding ... after the first one or two words. BUT, at the bottom of each month view there is a list view of all the events where everything is listed in detail. iCal does the same if you select the list to appear.

The truncation doesn't bug me as much as the inconsistency. If iCal always truncated every description so that it fit on one line, I could understand it and learn to work with it. Since it's inconsistent, I always have nagging doubt.
Someone on the iCal development team took the time to make iCal do word-wrapping in month view, and it just doesn't work consistently. iCal's choice to truncate or wrap any given event seems to depend entirely on the application window width; some events that are truncated get wrapped if you make the window narrower.
P.S. Regarding phpicalendar, WebCalendar is also worth looking at. http://www.k5n.us/webcalendar.php

I just updated to OS X 10.4.3; the bug still remains.
Does anyone know how to get this on the radar of the actual iCal development team so that they can either fix it or affirm that it won't be fixed. Clearly, talking about it here doesn't help, and neither has submitting two bug reports on the iCal support web page.

Try resizing the calendar a little bit. I've found that sometimes shrinking the calendar horizontally just a tad will force the item with cut-off text to wrap and become visible.
Actually, even though it doesn't help me solve it, it helps to know other people are bothered by it like I am.
I agree this is an anoying problem It would be better if there were an option in the preferences so you could choose to show 1, 2, 3 or all lines of each etnry in the month view.
