Is there no practical way to make an album?

Here is the first thing I would expect to be able to do in iPhoto 08:

1. Shoot 100 photos
2. Put them in the library
3. Make an album of the best 25

I cannot figure out a way to do this that is not painful.

I can put all 100 photos in an album, easy. But then I only see them in a dinky album view fixed size. If I look at them in full screen mode, I can't sort them or even delete the bad ones easily. Every time I delete a photo the thumbnail moves back to the first photo.

The best I can figure out is to rate each photo and then make a smart album that only shows the 5-stars or whatever. But, jeeze.

Does anyone have a better way to look at the 100 photos at a decent size and then pick the 25 I want in the album?

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. When in the album move the slider at the bottom to the right to get the size of image you need to preview them.

When in a album you can sort manually if you use the View->Sort photos menu. In an Event the only sorting is by date. Make sure you're really in an album before trying to sort and not an Event.

Thanks so much for the prompt reply.

Unfortunately, on my monitor (25 in.) the thumbnails jump from about 2 in by 3.5 in to maybe 11 x 14 inches and then I can't use the arrow keys to move to the next photo.

But, I did discover a way to do what I want. In full screen mode I can use the arrow keys to move between photos and command-L hides a photo if I don't want it to see it in the album. (I would rather just delete them from the album but I do not see a way to do this.)

I'm disappointed iPhoto does not have a better way to do this.
