Wall Charger for iPhone + extension cable?

I have a wall charger and standard iPhone cable but it's too short. I was thinking of adding an extension cable but would it be safe to use in conjunction?

By too short as in the surge protector is on the ground and the desk is 4 feet high and the cable is less than 4 feet high and when I put it on the ground it takes the iPhone with it.

I've never seen any extension cables (or longer than standard cables) for the iPhone/iPod. What did you have in mind?

You could use a standard line extension cord for the surge protector so that it would reach your desk. You also could plug an extension cord with a strip outlet into the surge protector, and place the outlet on your desk, plugging the charger into that. Both would be safe.

Sorry. I didn't realize I missed the word "USB" in extension cable.

It would be the wall charger, add a USB extension cable to the charger, and plug the iPhone charging cable into the USB extension cable.

I use USB extension cables for my keyboards as the computers are over ten feet away but I wasn't sure if I adding a USB extension cable to a wall charger and iPhone cable was safe.

I can't plug it into a computer at work as it's a government owned machine sadly.
