Import of 720p59.94 HD video

I am importing MP4 video files which are 720p HD video with a frame rate of 59.94.
When exporting the edited movie via quicktime, the frame rate setting is set to 'current' but the output has a frame rate of 29.97 instead of 59.94 Any idea why ?
Do I have to set it to 59.94 instead of 'current' ?
How can I be sure that the imported video files are still 59.94 and not chunked-down to 29.94 ?
Thx for the info.

What camera? Is this the Sanyo. I didn't know it did 720p 60. Anyway I am pretty sure that it imports at 30 if you are ntsc ie the US. You would want to export at 29.97.

Some correct me if I am wrong. I don't shoot progressive, however, I do shoot 1080 60i and the frame rate is 29.97

There is a way to trick imovie to import at 60 but I have never done it. Nor do I remember how.

Yes, it's a Sanyo HD1000.
When playing the native files with quicktime, it clearly shows as 60 fps (59.94).
I now shoot in 1080i60 (60 fields interlaced which makes 30 frames), just to have this extra resolution to work with stabilization and then export in 720p.
However I have plenty of video which got shot at 720p60 (60 frames progressive). The import seems to chunk it down to 30 frames, which kills the smooth motion flow.
I am now trying to force the export to 60 frames to check the result, but if the import is per default 30 then exporting it to twice the frames will not much help cause every second frames will be duplicated.
Is there no way to 'force' the import to 60 frames/secs ?
(60 = 59.94 and 30 = 29.97)
