Handbrake? movies to iPhone

Why would some of the movies in iTunes show up gray when I am choosing which ones to load on my iPhone? They have the same format as others that show up black and will load.

Also, just converted a DVD with Handbrake using iPhone presets and when moved into iTunes it also shows up gray and we are unable to load it onto the iPhone.

I must have something set wrong. Anyone know what it might be?

Do you have some movies that you've encoded in Handbrake that don't show up gray in iTunes? If so, when you right-click on a gray one and 'Get Info', is anything different than the not-gray ones?

I've been using Handbrake and iTunes a lot lately and it's been working great. Although I Add File to library versus dragging...I doubt that makes a difference.

Apple universal encoding??? is that a different program to use???

All of these movies have same info on the summary page, except of course size and the like. All are MPEG 4 video file, video codec: h.264, but some are gray and it won't allow me to choose them to load onto iPhone.

Hi, did u delete the original copy, after dragging it to iTunes? If your iTunes isn't set up to make copy of file for your iTunes library, when u add something and then delete the copied file u can't use it in iTunes as it was just a shadow copy, if u still have the original copy, try consolidating your library ......

Jeeze!!!! sounded better in my head, let me know if this helps

I've run into this too.

I Handbreak DVD to m4v. For some reason selecting Apple Universal or iPhone/iPod Touch gave me the same result. Also, selecting the iPod 5G support didn't seem to set the special bits right.

Anyways, it doesn't matter.

Also, my video (either with 1500 kbps or 100% constant) look a little liney on fast moving segments. Using H.264 with L&G Leopard, iTunes, HB and 3GS.

Once you get you video file into ITunes...do Advanced->Create iPod or iPhone Version and it will definitely play correctly on your iP device.

This is a bit of a pain, but it worked for me.

I myself haven't figured out the "magic" combo of options, etc. in Handbrake to get my DVD's to my iPhone without the extra step.

HTH,

He said that the movie plays in iTunes, just won't sync to the iPhone. So he must have the files somewhere.
I'm having the same problem. Converted some Chapters from a DVD to .m4v using Handbrake (h.264, 480x360, bitrate 1k, audio acc - 44.1kHz - 160kbs).
Plays perfectly in iTunes but I can't sync it to my iPhone.
It only works if I use the codec MPEG-4 (ffmpeg), but that gives me bigger files with worse quality using the same quality settings.
It's getting really annoying since it is supposed to work and I have no clue what's going on.
