Cant remove Apple Software Update

I have just got a new Itouch for my B'day and thought i was doing the right thing by getting the new 3.0 something update. At that current time i had Itunes 8.1 installed. After the dowload of the new patch was complete it told me that i needed 8.2. So iv downloaded that and it told me to remove all other Itunes and Quick player programs.

With that all done i have gone to install 8.2 and its says that "the older version of Apple Software update cannot be removed."

I have done a full search of the computer and cant find of the Apple Software update. Can any one enlighten me on how i can fix this.

Thanks!

Usually doing an installer cleanup solves this.

Download and install Microsoft Installer cleanup utility, there are instructions on the page as well as the download. Note that what you download is the installer not the program – you have to run it to install the program. The installer doesn't give any message to confirm the installation.

(To run the program – All Programs>>Windows Install)

Run the Installer cleanup utility and remove any instance you find of Apple software update.
